I designed this deck during one of the MCM community challenges (pair heroes with their weakest aspect). I am a huge fan of the street-level heroes, specifically Daredevil and the Defenders, and there are only two options at this time that allow me to play all of them together (Spider-Woman and Adam Warlock). For fun, I decided to find as much card art as possible that features the Defenders or someone associated with them. At the same time, I wanted the deck to function. So, does this deck mark those boxes? Is the deck any good? Let's find out in Casual Deck Time:
This deck is designed as a control deck primarily, in case the Protection and Justice aspects did not give that away. As Daredevil features prominently on much of the side scheme interacting cards, I made that a main feature of the deck. For Protection I leaned into the "defend and do stuff" kind of build. The basic package all featured card art of Defenders, except for the resource cards of course.
Now, how did the deck perform? Well, I have to say not too well since it's 0-2. Not the best use of testing, I know, but when you're a parent you take what time you can get. My first game was solo vs Taskmaster. I'll go with the good stuff first. For the first time, I rescued all four allies. I was using Enchantress as a modular, so she had some things to say about me using said allies, but I rescued all four. The casual deck wins there! I ultimately lost to threat as I pulled a lot of my good threat removal early, and spent too much time on rescuing allied, but I had fun. Also, this deck succeeded in getting 3 Defenders out at one time. Another win in my book. The bad news...well the bad news is I lost and didn't have enough tools to keep the threat in control.
My second game was a duo with my oldest who was playing precon WarMachine. What's the good news on this one. Well, I opened up with Daredevil, Followed, One Way or Another, two copies of Power of Justice, and one copy of Down Time. Card art win! Great opening turn for Spider-Woman. The bad news is we never made it past Kang's first main scheme.
So was this deck a success? It all depends on what you think of as success. Is it going to win many games? I have no idea as I only tried it twice, but that small number did not bode well for the deck. For me though, I enjoyed this deck, which is ultimately the main thing. It itched my Daredevil itch for now (please FFG, release him soon!) The theme was a win for me as well.
If you decide to try this deck, I hope you have fun with it as well. I hope to continue this with making more theme decks in the near future.
