I adapted the Cyclops Perfected Deck for use in the Mutant Genesis Campaign. I used the Commander deck-building feature to give me access to upgrades/events from the Leadership and Aggression aspects. This deck gets to be a monster of a deck because I had no qualms about including the additional New Mutants allies that come out from the Night of the Sentinels scenario. Once you add in three or four new mutants and two aspect cards from the deck building rules allowed by the campaign, the deck's card count approaches 50. I found that the higher card count lessened the deck's performance, but I also found that it was so fun that I didn't care.
Ally Choice:
I tried including as many two-cost allies as possible to keep the cost curve for allies under control. With Utopia on the board, playing cheap allies readies Cyclops (or, more often, Storm). Mutant Protectors was good at brining in higher-cost allies, but I found that Professor X was the most likely target for that card.
Strategy:
Like many Cyclops decks, this deck is all about the allies. Scott's superpower is not that great, but he is the leader of the X-Men. To that end, spam as many allies as possible and have them do the work. Mulligan for Storm but do not lose heart if she does not come out in the early game. Use Scott's Alter-Ego ability to get those Tactics upgrades, but use them exclusively as resources to play more allies or supports. Once set up with X-Mansion, Utopia and a few allies, use Mutant Education to shuffle Cyclops's Tactics upgrades and blast cards back into the now-thinning deck. Then, start blastin' Frank Reynolds-style.
I could probably drop Cerebro in favor of another card, but I used any excess allies as resources to pay for other stuff, particularly when there were already three or four allies on the board (that counted against the ally limit).
Side Board:
- I consider all the X-Men allies to be part of the side-board.
- 3 Copies of Protective Training. This card is great for keeping the expensive allies on the board, but I did not include them in my base deck because the card count was too high. I would opt to include 1 or two if I thought it would help, especially against Magneto.
