Rise of the Psionic Phoenix

drawing

What is this deck about?

  • Exploit the Psionic and X-Men combos.
  • Great setup that allows to play many events and sustain a couple of powerful allies.
  • Use Danger Room Training on Colossus or Cyclops and keep them alive as long as possible.

Allies

All our allies are X-Men!

You want to quickly cycle Forge, Professor X, Triage and Pixie. Use them to defend.

Events

Resources

Supports

  • Cerebro - Can search for any of our allies in the deck since they are all X-Men and Jean is Psionic.
  • Uncanny X-Men - For those extra hit points and reduced cost on all our allies.
  • Team-Building Exercise - Can be used with all our allies (6), 6 events, 2 supports and 3 upgrades. 17 cards total.
  • Utopia - We will be playing many X-Men.
  • Danger Room - Find those Danger Room Training cards for your allies.

Upgrades

  • Honorary X-Men - This is important for the deck. We need to make your AE an X-Men! Benefits for doing this: Uncanny X-Men needs all your characters to be X-Men to get the reduced cost. Professor X can now ready your AE and Utopia can trigger in AE!
  • Danger Room Training - Good for Colossus and Cyclops. The rest of the X-Men you want to cycle so you don't really want to play it on them.
  • X-Gene - We have 8 identity-specific events.
  • Mental Paralysis and Mind Control are very situational, but useful in those situations. Remember we have Team-Building Exercise and The Power of the Mind to pay them.
  • Phoenix Suit - Against condition heavy villains, I try to keep the Restrained trait as long as possible because of Steady. I don't find the Retaliate that useful since you will usually be defending with one of the allies you want to cycle. I don't play it if I am already Unleashed.

Psychic Kicker with Professor X feels so damn good. and what's better than thwarting for 5? attacking for 2 :3

also, have you tried Gentle or Havok? i feel they are both good kicker targets as well

I can't agree more with @dr00, I think Havok has the potential to become the MVP of this deck if you combo him with Psychic Kicker

I guess I could try Havok. The thing is I'm not really convinced in the randomness of it. Attacking, then another attack with Psychic Kicker and ideally defending afterwards could be alright, but at 4 health with Uncanny X-Men he can be defeated by the reveal of a 1-3, 2-2, 2-3, 3-3. On a best case scenario (3-3 reveal) he could deal 5+7=13 damage and no defense. Lets say we also got one 0 boost icon reveal so he adds 2 free damage.

For a total of 15 and no defense. Colossus is much more versatile, with his Tough, reduced cost 3 or 2 with Uncanny X-Men and he will usually stay longer in play allowing for a heal with Triage or to play Danger Room Training on him.

The cost and unpredictability of the reveal kills me. I will give it a try though and let you guys know how it went :)
