Nightcrawler is well suited for a Defense Protection deck but also works well with the new Change of Fortune archetype and he combines them well, allowing you to draw up to 4 cards in the villain phase.
With his Base 3 defense, Cutlasses, Armor, Specialized Training, Nightcrawler can get to 6 base defense and easily trigger without the need for events.
Bamf allows him to defend against the villain but also vs minions as necessary. Desperate Defense does the same thing but adds more consistency in case you do not have bamf, you want to use bamf for other cards, or for even more readying.
Powerful Punch, Under Control, Energy Barrier, and Retaliate are the main ways to defeat minions in the villain phase and trigger Change of Fortune.
This deck is configured more towards Multiplayer with the assumption that someone else is the primary thwarter.
But for a more solo friendly version, you can remove some of the anti minion cards such Powerful Punch or Under Control for some thwarting. Hard to Ignore is good, but the best is likely strong thwarting allies.
Since you said that this deck could use another thwarter, wouldn’t you use something else besides a on avg 10 threat player side scheme? Just feels like it would never be completed. Especially if the villain is a heavy scheme user as well?
