The X-Men Cometh

The Title The X-Men Cometh is a twist on the story called The Iceman Cometh, an appropriate title change for a deck that brings X-Man after X-Man into play.

If you'd like to see a discussion of this deck, see the following video: Coming soon ... from https://www.youtube.com/@MCDeckDiscussions

VILLAINS TESTED AGAINST to refine the deck (in both standard and expert): Klaw; Unus; Four Horsemen; and Magneto.

Refinements: Originally, a couple of copies of "You Got This!" and Nick Fury were in the deck, as well as other cards to support recursion, but the deck lost to both standard and expert Klaw, so I rethought the approach to the deck and decided to focus on an all-X-men deck and look for synergies around that.

Results: Undefeated once refined.

PLAY TIPS:

  • The highest priority supports are Uncanny X-Men and Utopia,

  • Other supports can add serious value as well, of particular note are the alter-ego supports Cerebro and Danger Room. Cerebro's value is maximized when a Psionic ally is in play, of which this deck has many, while Danger Room allows one to easily create some high-impact allies.

  • Leadership Skill can also have high impact since we often have three or even four X-men allies in play at a time with Utopia in play.

  • Iceman's resilience makes Clarity of Purpose a highly effective resource generator.

  • Frozen Solid is typically one of the cards chosen to recycle into Iceman's deck with his alter-ego ability since it also helps facilitate him going to alter-ego (and just shuts down the villain).

  • One generally wants to leave the thwarting to Iceman's allies so that he can focus on attacking instead and continually attaching copies of Frostbite to his enemies to inhibit their attacking and scheming capabilities.

Conclusion: Iceman's ability to decrease enemies' ATK and SCH means that his allies can remain in play more easily and be more fully utilized than they often can with other heroes, while Frozen Solid completely immobilizes the villain. The deck feels fun and simple and gradually gains more and more control of the game as it progresses, managing the villains in ways other heroes cannot.

@Daring Lime Thanks! Right now, that video's scheduled to come out on Monday, though it's possible I'll put out a Black Panther (Shuri) video to come out that day instead and push this one back 2 or 3 days.
