Sometimes a card comes out and you find yourself asking “why did they make this??” Strength in Diversity is one of those cards. Why did they make this??
While I can’t answer that question, I can say I’ve been playing it in this Rogue deck and it’s really really really good. Stupid good.
Sure it requires you to get a bunch of allies into play with different traits to really get any benefits from it, but it’s not like you weren’t going to play a bunch of allies anyways. And where better to play a bunch of Allie’s with different traits than in the trait queen herself, Rogue?
To be fair, we aren’t actually going to be using any of those traits for any shenanigans apart from boosting Strength In Diversity (heretofore to be known as SiD), but still, she makes a nice home for it.
And the reason for that is Superpower Adaptation of course. Every time a new event comes out from now until the end of Marvel Champions time we have to ask ourselves “would I like to play this event 3 extra times a deck pass?” Yes, yes I would.
Now that’s a lot of intro with no piloting instructions but honestly this is pretty straightforward. Spend the early game getting diversely traited allies into play while trying to stay alive with Rogue. There’s a fun mix of her access to stun/confuse, blocking, and Bulletproof Belle. Just try to avoid chumping, but if you’ve got a Maria or a Kaluu out there with no health to spare and a new ally in your hand to play, then feel free.
Black Panther is one of the key allies as he can get you another use of SiD. The Rapid Responses are mainly for him. Play him and grab a SiD, activate him and take his 2 consequential, and then this turn or the next play the SiD off of him and then either block with him or use him again next turn and bring him back with Rapid Response getting SiD right back again.
Since you want to be keeping your allies alive you might often find yourself in a spot with a bunch of friends that can’t actually do anything and that’s where Strength in Numbers comes into play. Might as well exhaust them all to help zoom your way to the next SiD or Superpower Adaptation in your deck. It’s also a nice target for Superpower Adaptation or Panther if the situation calls for it.
I included lots of resource generators cause Rogue is always broke, and a Triskelion because the more the merrier. Without it it’s pretty easy to get to 5-8 different traits on the table, but with it you can get to 10.
The deck itself is fairly simple to play, and extremely strong. I beat expert Taskmaster, Red Skull, and Magneto on my first try each without too much trouble. Sid is just so incredibly strong. You can spread out your pings however you want, and they are all one at a time meaning you can remove Toughs and keep going, remove a Crisis and then remove threat on the main, or defeat the villain and keep going on the next one. It’s not an attack or a thwart so it gets around Guard and Patrol, and it doesn’t care if you’re stunned or confused.
Really the only downside I can think of is it’s pulling you away from playing all your tribal cards that power up your main trait. So no Utopia or Cerebro or To Me My X-Men here. It’s time to give diversity a chance.
This looks great! You've got so many traits here lol. I'll have to try this one out!
