Note: This deck can win in solo, but it has a slow start and can be tricky in the beginning.
What if we took the most underrated hero and one of the most underrated allies and brought them together? This unique but surprisingly fun deck does just that. Adam Warlock can be very tricky to build for, but he can be amazing for vultron decks as he can bring ally upgrades from all aspects.
Setup
- Get Warlock in play ASAP. Call for Backup and Suit Up help you accomplish this early on. Because you can't include multiple copies of cards, you may want to scoop early on if you are just not finding the tools you need. But once you have them, boy is this deck fun.
- Get Children of the Atom and Honorary Guardian in play on Warlock. These cards will open up access to all your juicy ally upgrades that are trait locked to X-Men or Guardians. Once you get one of these in play, this deck becomes much easier to work with.
- Vultron Warlock. This is the fun part. There are so many fun upgrades, and you can raise Warlock's stats to impressive levels. Because he can heal, Enraged is perfect for him because he can easily take care of that extra consequential damage. Clarity of Purpose is also useful, it becomes effectively a "heal 1 damage" card for Warlock, but with added flexibility to pay for other cards you have.
- Get Rogue in play. Rogue is amazing for this deck because you can deal a damage to Warlock to boost Rogue's stats as well, doubling the power of your ally upgrades. Suddenly you can swing for 7 with Warlock and 9 with Rogue, and the villian will be crying out for mercy.
Middle/End Game
Once you are setup, this deck can be incredibly fun. Continue to vultron Warlock, then crush the villain with pure stats. Med Team and the Battle Mage ability can provide additional healing for Warlock or Rogue if needed. I put in some other "good stuff" aspect cards to fill in some of the other aspects, since there was a lot from leadership I wanted to put in, but not as much from the other aspects that was critical for this deck. Use some of the powerful Guardian and Mystic events to work your way out of problems while you set up.
Conclusion
The toughest part of an Adam Warlock vultron deck is getting the key ally you want in play with no duplicates of aspect cards, so don't be afraid if you need to scoop. This deck will probably function best in multiplayer when you have another player to take care of issues at the table while you set up. If you want another fun Adam Warlock/vultron deck, may I suggest my Adam Warlock/White Widow deck that brings together Preparation and ally upgrade cards from all the different aspects.
UPDATE: I just learned that Rogue benefits from printed stats only, so I would either recommend swapping her for another protection character or just have some fun and house rule the way I played her. Whoops!
Love a good Voltron. Clarity of Purpose on Warlock is such a cool idea!
