I'm going to skip the Will Smith lyrics and get straight to the point. Wiccan is a pretty awesome ally. When you play him from hand, you get to go grab an identity-specific event. So I want to play him from my hand over and over and over and over....
Ways to get Wiccan:
- Call for Aid: Wiccan is the only Avenger in this deck, so you are guaranteed to get him to your hand (or get an encounter card and a free re-shuffle). While you're at it, you should get some Digging Deep and maybe a White Fox out of the deal.
- Suit Up: Drop down to alter-ego and play this, grabbing a Clarity of Purpose while you're at it. I prefer to only use Clarity of Purpose as a resource, so that I can play Suit Up again in the future.
- Regroup: This kind of requires that Wiccan is already in play, but it allows you to play him again the following turn.
Ways not to get Wiccan (aka ways to get Maria Hill or Nick Fury instead):
- Make the Call: This plays the card from your discard pile, not your hand, so you don't want to use it for Wiccan.
- Call for Backup: Again, this card plays the ally from deck or discard, not your hand.
- Rapid Response: Again, this card plays the ally from your discard pile, not your hand.
What event should I grab with Wiccan?
The choice is yours! Hulkling is great at adapting to the situation, and that means you can grab whatever the situation calls for.
- Getting overwhelmed by threat? Grab Impersonation!
- Ready to start blasting? Grab Shapeshifter Strike!
- Need to change out your shapeshifter upgrade? Grab Shapeshifter!
- Bored and want to spice things up? Grab Armored Defense!
What armored upgrade should I focus on?
Once again, this will depend on the villain and the game state.
- Armored Shape is great for the free healing.
- Hulk Shape is the go-to if you're trying to go ham on the enemy.
- Imitation Shape can be useful if you are close to death and can't flip down, or just need to squeeze out a little extra thwarting this round at the expense of the villain scheming later.
- Winged Shape is a good all-around form and provides a little extra thwarting capability.
What should my mulligan target be?
- Call for Aid: I don't actually want Wiccan in my starting hand. I want Call for Aid so that I can get Wiccan, White Fox, and 3x Digging Deep.
- Alien Physiology: This is an excellent way to pay for the events that you're going to grab with Wiccan.
- Resource cards to pay for Wiccan and Alien Physiology.
- Helicarrier or Quincarrier: Resources going forward are always nice.
That's pretty much it. This deck is primarily built for multiplayer, but is still going to do great solo. Maria Hill just won't be as valuable.
Suit up? Clarity of purpose? Make the call? Maria and Nick?
Someone better prep the heroic difficulty scenarios so the baddies have a chance!
