A deck build prompted by Winning Hand podcast episode #88: Even the Odds. The conceit of this card is to thwart multiple side schemes simultaneously in order to deal damage to the villain. As such, it behooves the hero to remove small amounts of threat in multiple instances rather than a large push. Enter Cindy Moon, a.k.a. Silk.
Benefits from her hero kit include a hero-specific player side scheme, a support that removes threat in both hero or alter-ego, and a thwart event that can flex to multiple schemes. Get the Scoop is a side scheme that Silk wants in play frequently to manage her tucked cards. As an action, J. Jonah Jameson removes two threat from any scheme every turn. Wallcrawl removes a modest 2 threat from a scheme. Then, choose a scheme, she may discard a tucked card from the same encounter set as the chosen scheme to remove 3 threat from the chosen scheme. This could include the main scheme.
That discarded tucked card could even be a side scheme which can then be returned to play One Way of Another, immediately setting up for the next Even the Odds play. As a web-warrior, Silk can make a Quick Quip to confuse the villain and a minion, or multiple minions, or even a villain with steady. This allows her to flip down and manage her tucked card inventory, possibly with help of Albert Moon.
Also aiding our intrepid reporter are justice-centered web-warriors Lady Spider: May Reilly and Spider-Man: Pavir Prabhakar. Lady Spider can remove threat from two different schemes, including the main. After Pavir enters play, a variable amount of threat is removed from a scheme depending on how many web-warrior cards are in play. This include Web of Life and Destiny. Across the Spider-verse can bring them back or provide a wild resource to trigger Even the Odds.
To pay for this Pulitzer prize-winning investigative journalism, the three basic resource cards are supplemented by Power of Justice to easily play Even the Odds along with the suite of aspect cards. Finally, Passion for Justice increases the thwart for Even the Odds or Wallcrawl.
Finally, hero-specific upgrades Organic Webbing and Outwit add power and flexibility to her basic thwart stat. She also has significant damage output with Swinging Silk Kick for solo ventures. So, grab that notepad, suit up, swing into action, but whatever you do…
