Strength in Diversity with Magik is great since she can get allies out at a discount through her ability to play cards 1 cheaper from the top of her deck once per phase, plus Summoning Spell.
Triskelion you'll actually use since you'll easily be getting allies out.
This deck has easily reached 9 damage/thwart with SiD.
I mostly play true solo but this deck works great in multiplayer too.
So, who's in the Magic Circle?
- Black Panther helps grab SiD and holds onto it until you're ready. Avenger and Wakanda traited.
- Domino. Her ability helps you to get the discount on whatever you need, plus the flexibility to get a wild resource on top of your deck. Posse and X-Force traited.
- Blade - cheap ally and can stay around indefinitely. Avenger and Vampire traited.
- Hugin & Mugin - Decent ability and cheap to play. Aerial, Asgard and Bird traited.
- Vivian. Cheap to play and three unique traits. Ability helps you in a pinch. Decent burst thwart if necessary and Team Training helps keep her around if you do need the 2 THW.
- Kaluu - Avenger and Mystic. Cheap blue ally. 14 events so can help pull SiD. Swappable though if you want to tweak the Guestlist.
- Slingshot - cheap as they come, great stats and adds to your hand size along with The Sorcerer Supreme. Shield and Spy traited.
- Cosmo - another cheap ally and has often been utilised with Magik (and rightly so!). Can stay around indefinitely and lends the Guardian trait, but is generally useful in most Magik decks for consistent ping damage/1 THW. Can be swapped (just don't tell him that).
- A New Recruit - another ally that's easy to get out along with the 'New' trait. Whichever you choose won't count against your ally limit, so pick whoever you want. I often pick the one who has +2 extra HP, which ends up being +3 with Team Training out.
- Colossus - of course, Magik has no choice but to allow her brother into the circle. He doesn't contribute to traits for SiD, but we all know how good he is, so shout out to him.
Rationale behind other cards in the deck:
The X-Jet and Clarity of Purpose help to pay for allies, including Slingshot each turn or to keep Blade around. You could also swap/add Kid Omega and pay for his ability.
Power of Leadership gets good use due to the amount of blue allies and to pay for SiD. Along with Domino, they also increase chances of having a wild on top of your deck if you want to play any of Magik's events and hit their kickers.
Endurance helps shore up Magik's squishy 9HP and gives you chance to utilise your allies' ATM and THW, reducing the need for chump blocking.
X-Gene is a nice to have, but since we have Clarity of Purpose and The X-Jet, it's mainly here for an extra wild resource and if you Mulligan into it. You won't find yourself flipping down too often in my experience, so feel free to swap for another ally or whatever you want.
Never felt like I needed Spiritual Meditation to change what was in my hand. Keeping a decent amount of allies and focusing in on SiD means you should always run into allies often anyway.
Potential Magic Circle candidates to swap in:
-
Legion - I tried him but found it hard to pay for him instead of other cheaper ally options and wanted to maximise the use of Power Leadership with blue cards. However, give him a go if you like!
-
Nick Fury - if you're after more card draw and optimising the power level of the deck.
