Children of the Atom gives all the X-Force heroes the X-Men trait, but what are the biggest benefits of being an X-Men in Marvel Champions? Uncanny X-Men team card. Utopia support. Which Mutant benefits the most from those 2 cards? X-23.

Uncanny X-Men

Why is Uncanny X-Men so good for X-23? First off, X-23’s identity-specific ally, Honey Badger has the X-Men trait. With the +1 hit point from Uncanny X-Men, Honey Badger gets a whole extra activation so she can trigger her ability to ready up X-23. Uncanny X-Men also reduces the cost of each X-Men ally, making Honey Badger a 1 cost ally. This effect is perfectly suited for ally spam/recursion, which is where Honey Badger shines brightest. Voltron builds are very popular for Honey Badger, but X-23’s obligation takes Honey Badger off the table discarding all upgrades attached to her. The obligation doesn’t get removed from the game when it’s dealt with so it can keep coming back, resetting all the progress you make with the Voltron. However, if we look at Honey Badger as an ally that’s expendable, it’s no longer a big deal when she leaves play due to the obligation or even chump blocking. Because of Sisterhood, we can tutor Honey Badger from the deck or discard pile and play her back down for 1 cost. She even has 3 hit points to activate and ready up her sister. Honey Badger fits perfectly in a recursion build.

Utopia

Utopia is another X-Men support that synergizes perfectly with X-23. When you think of Mutant heroes who want to ready the most, the answer is always X-23. Activate with X-23, play Honey Badger for 1 cost to ready up X-23. Then each time Honey Badger activates, she’ll ready up X-23 again.

Honorary X-Men

This card can only be played after Children of the Atom is in play. We want this on X-23 so she retains the X-Men trait in alter-ego so we can keep Uncanny X-Men online. This has added benefits in the +1 hit point and we can let Children of the Atom get discarded with Caught off Guard after Honorary X-Men is in play.

Readying Up Honey Badger

With a fully built out board, Command Team helps Honey Badger get additional readies which readies up X-23 for enough damage to take out any villain. There are other creative ways to ready up Honey Badger and recur her with Phoenix, Professor X, or Utopia.

Clarity of Purpose

Clarity of Purpose is one of the few times in Marvel Champions where there is another exact duplicate card in the form of Grim Resolve. They both work great for X-23 to take damage to ready and generate a resource.

Mulligan Priority

Our key cards are Uncanny X-Men, Children of the Atom, Sisterhood, Honorary X-Men, then Utopia in this order. Build Support helps get Uncanny X-Men out asap which unleashes the whole deck even if you can’t get Honey Badger going yet.
