Valkyrie's specialty is dealing high damage to minions and converting that into thwart, healing, indirect damage to the villain, and card draw. Her weaknesses include a clunky and costly hero kit that is weak on fast thwarting, defense, and ways to build up her board. Your team mates can help in multiplayer but Valk can face a long flight back to Valhalla in solo play. This deck addresses many of Valkyrie's shortcomings through the clever strategy of "card draw go BRRR" and it consistently builds up quickly.
Game Plan: Draw Cards and Then Draw More Cards
2x Chooser of the Slain and 3x "Avenge Me!" gives the deck 10x extra card draw each deck pass. This lets you effectively cycle two turns faster than a typical deck. Early game, your priority is to fish for cards which build your board economy. This includes: allies to help you thwart, your player side schemes, and copies of "Avenge Me!" With 2x player side schemes and 4x resource-boosting supports, you can begin building your board very quickly and cheaply.
It can be very tempting to "treadmill" minions with Valk, since so much of her deck revolves around placing Death-Glow on minions and slaying them for rewards. This deck doesn't really want to do this in the early game. Instead, prioritize using Chooser of the Slain's card draw to set up your board faster. Valkyrie has HP to spare for minion damage and this deck's entire strategy revolves around boosting card draw. Once you have card draw and resources to spare, you can spend more on Death-Glowing minions. This will let you draw even more cards once Valhalla is in play.
Card draw begets card draw and this deck quickly transitions from building up to closing out. I've drawn 17 cards in a turn with this deck. That gives you ridiculous options for defeating the villain and the deck's upper limit is even higher. Have at Thee!'s underwhelming 4 ER for 7 damage gets a lot more palatable when you can play two, or even all three copies, in a single turn. Or you can use Make the Call on Cyclops to boost your full board's damage. Valk is a fine hero if she's consistently drawing a third of her deck each turn!
Closing Thoughts
As an added bonus and fun self-imposed challenge, this deck is largely compliant with the current environment (as of the Civil War wave). Valkyrie's hero cards are the only ones outside the environment and everything else should be relatively accessible.
Ally selection will be very much up to the player and and the villain, even if you decide to (mostly) follow Current Environment. Kid Omega and Vision are pretty interchangeable, and I would sub Gambit for Mockingbird if the villain is steady or stalwart. Earlier versions of this deck mixed in some copies for Suit Up. This lets you fish for extra copies of "Avenge Me!" and look for allies in your deck AND discard pile. Valkyrie has a couple of reasons to go to AE, but it's risky without any confuse in the deck in the early game and completely unnecessary in the late game.
I hope you enjoy this deck! I had a lot of fun building and playing it. While any Avenger hero can benefit from "Avenge Me!" and Evaluate Threat, I think this shell really let's Valk's hero kit shine and covers many of her weaknesses. Let me know what you think and enjoy!
Fun! Conceptually brutal, as you are really just calling up allies to get murdered so that you can benefit, but still a fun deck :-D
