Nightcrawler doesn't just defend.
He makes the villain regret attacking in the first place.
This Protection deck turns Kurt's constant BAMF! defenses into damage, card draw, and battlefield control. Build the machine, thin the deck, then teleport into practically every fight you can.
Build the Machine
The deck contains a lot of upgrades, and that's intentional.
Armored Vest and Defensive Conditioning improve Kurt's DEF, while the extra hit points from Defensive Conditioning help keep Dauntless active.
Electrostatic Armor, Excelsior, and Dauntless then turn successful defenses into damage.
Excelsior is especially important. The deck is packed with energy resources, making it easy to spend an energy after defending and deal another 2 damage.
The villain attacks.
Kurt says BAMF.
Something gets hurt.
Usually not Kurt.
Under Control
Under Control turns enemy minions into traps.
Attach it to a minion, defend its attack without taking damage, and deal 4 damage back to it.
If that destroys the minion during the villain phase, Change of Fortune can turn the kill into 2 cards.
Combined with Electrostatic Armor, Dauntless, Excelsior, and Riposte, Nightcrawler can generate a surprising amount of damage without waiting for the player phase.
Stronger Together
Kurt isn't only protecting himself.
Stronger Together lets him use his increasingly high DEF to protect another character who shares a trait with him.
That makes all the defensive investment useful even when someone else is in danger.

Build, Then BAMF
The large number of upgrades also serves another purpose.
During the first pass through the deck, you install the machinery. Those cards stay on the table, making every future pass through the deck smaller and increasingly concentrated with events, resources, and Bamf!
Then Change of Fortune can accelerate the process even further by drawing cards during the villain phase.
And when a leftover card doesn't fit the moment?
There's always Plan B.
BAMF! You Hit Back
Nightcrawler doesn't hide behind a shield.
He appears exactly where the attack is going, protects his friends, disappears again, and leaves the attacker wondering why defending against Kurt somehow hurt so much.
