Gwen used to have very clear weaknesses:
-
Her base Attack and Thwart are low, making her very reliant on her events to clear large side schemes and minions.
-
Her alter-ego side provides very little value, so any turn to duck for healing feels like lost time.
-
If you are playing a build based around defense events, you frequently head into your own turn with fewer cards available than a typical hero.
Two recent upgrades cover these weaknesses very well while also strengthening her core game plan.
The Best Offense... is an incredible card, letting you attack and thwart for five (including Innate Reflexes), often multiple times per turn with her Dizzying Reflexes ability and Peter Parker. This can generate huge turns that completely turn around or end a game.
Ready for a Fight lets you flip to recover, get the small value from Gwen's ability, then come out with a six card hand for the next turn.
The ally package is fairly self-explanatory. Now that Gwen is better at handling minions, Spider-UK has come out for Scarlet Spider, who can soak up the random little bits of damage that get through and keep Peter in play for much longer. Sp//dr is in for Hobie, mainly for the cost alone.
Gwen is almost always going to need to work her way into a game as she gets her card draw upgrades down, but it is a lot easier with a 5 in your key stats rather than 1 or 2 She now has enough comeback and finishing power to hang with anyone.
