A simple budget deck for beginners like me!
sp//DR is able to use her Repurpose and energy tech package especially effectively because of all the built-in re-readying. But while Captain Marvel doesn't have re-readying built into her deck, she does have two big synergies sp//DR doesn't:
- Tons of card draw to set up big combos quickly and reliably, and
- Most of the cards from this package have printed , for extremely reliable Rechannels and charging up her cannon!
Play this deck slowly and control-y as you set up and stabilize, using Rechannel generously to stay healthy and keep digging for what you need. Stay in hero mode most turns to take advantage of your protection, but flip to alter-ego occasionally to get that extra oomph of card draw. (Hopefully you'll see Spider-Woman and her confusion pretty often as you tear through the deck!)
Finally, build up to a combo turn: consider holding some combo pieces the turn before, then unleash one or two Repurposes, then a Counter-Punch, then maybe even an Indomitable -> Counter-Punch if a second attack comes out—which you can trigger with Get Behind Me!
You can expect 10–12 damage with one Repurpose, and closer to 18–21 with two Repurpose—and more like 24–28 if you can pull off that second Counter-Punch. And you can hopefully pop off your Energy Channel cannon for another 10, too!
The main risk in this deck is that it doesn't have much thwart—so focus your output on threat when you can, stay in hero mode more often than you'd think, prioritize Spider-Woman's confusion, and make sure not to flip into alter-ego when you can't handle it! And consider staying in Phase 1 for a while, since you should be able to clear Phase 2 pretty quickly once you're set up.
One major opportunity for tweaks is the allies: I picked Daredevil and Luke Cage because they're good blockers, and Luke provides some extra damage output. But you might own cards I don't that would fit this deck even better! (I wonder if a Nick Fury to cycle even more aggressively would help? Or do we already have plenty of that?)
