Watch Rey Plays Games! take this deck up against Expert Four Horsemen here!
Unlike most characters with extra forms, Spectrum cannot change form at will. This is a weakness that appears to frustrate many players. This deck is aimed at making sure that you can always change form.
The best way to avoid being stuck in the wrong form, of course, is to only use her defense card (Pulsar Shield) in emergencies or when you have an event in hand that guarantees your ability to later go to a more useful form for the hero phase.
This is because being in Gamma or Photon form tend to be much more powerful and useful in an array of situations.
So let's say you want to change form - Mulligan! Draw a whole new hand! Find a card that lets you go to the form you want to.
If that somehow isn't enough? We have double card draw with Rock, Paper, Scissors and Avengers Mansion to find a solution.
Still can't get to the form you want? Hope Summers can find ANY of your signature events from your deck! Your events change your form, making her one of our most powerful tools when it comes to form control (or even grabbing Energy Duplication early when you find a lot of resources).
And Healing Factor largely keeps you from ever needing to swap to your defense form in the first place. Combine with allies and Tic-Tac-Toe to survive with ease and stay healthy for your triple 'Pool resources.
Plus, even putting all that aside, Spectrum is just really, really good in 'Pool! This has become my main way to play her for the past year.
Overview:
- Archetype: Safe 'Pool
- Difficulty: Low-Medium
- Play Style: Regular Tempo
- Recommended Player Count: 1-4
- Ideal Aspect Partner: Any
Mulligan Priorities:
- A triple resource such as Self Confidence
- Stick-To-Itiveness
- Rock, Paper, Scissors
- Energy Duplication
- Quincarrier
- Avengers Mansion
- Healing Factor
- Deft Focus
If you have a triple resource in your opening hand, you should try and mulligan for something 3-4 cost! And likewise, if you have a good 3-4 cost in your opening hand, you should try to mulligan for a triple resource!
Basic Strategy
As you can see, we have a LOT of great setup options to get going early. It's almost impossible to have a bad opening hand.
Stick-To-Itiveness is incredibly good with Spectrum's stats. Quincarrier and Energy Duplication (when you're in Gamma form) will pay for it. We also have multiple wild resources in a pinch.
Rock, Paper, Scissors has 7 wilds in the deck to use, giving us a target almost every turn to practically guarantee card draw. Two of them are upgrades, but the other 5 wilds stay in rotation! Have no wild in hand? Take a risk on an energy resource. But with Mulligan, it's difficult not to find one. Hope Summers can grab you a wild Speed of Light too.
You also have the potential to obliterate your enemies with Laser Swords. The lightsabres are pricey for little immediate return - but their potential is sky high, notably with the 'Pool allies, but especially with Live Dangerously played as a finisher. You ideally want to end the game then - but Photon Speed can bypass the crisis icon on Live Dangerously if you get into a bad situation.
Do NOT play Live Dangerously early on!!
The deck's main goal, of course, is to avoid ever being in the wrong form. As covered at the beginning, Mulligan is invaluable for this. General card draw? Also amazing. But Hope Summers should never be underestimated with Spectrum, letting you get any hero event from your deck.
Use Tic-Tac-Toe to keep yourself healthy and the triple resources online, but also to heal any ally with 2 ATK or 2 THW that cares about consequential damage if you're not at your ally limit. You can use it "for free" if you spend on it before you play Mulligan since spending on it isn't "playing" a card - or, in other words, you mulligain.
Something that's helpful for Spectrum is ending your turn in alter-ego. Take the usual caution when doing this in solo play, but by going alter-ego you have complete control on whatever form you want to enter next turn when you return to hero form. This deck doesn't NEED to do so, but it's always helpful as long as the main scheme isn't in danger.
And lastly, but perhaps most importantly, is one of Spectrum's biggest strengths which isn't often spoken of. Her economy scales like crazy. This is accelerated with the triple resources such as Self Control. The triples also fit so well with Gamma Blast and the allies which are all 3+ in cost for this reason, except Vivian who is here to tactically blank Live Dangerously.
In short, you should easily end up able to play multiple expensive cards per turn. Combine this with Spectrum's huge stats, and it's very, very powerful.
Other Cards to Consider
There are a TON of good cards in Marvel Champions in 2024. It makes it hard to stick to 40 card decks - and often I'd say hey, no worries, go over. But we don't want to go over or we weaken our ability to find all kinds of hero events on demand. The thing the deck was built around.
If you want to swap out some of the fun of Laser Swords/Live Dangerously for something more reliable, drop them for Get Rage-y and Gambit. If so, you can also drop the 'Pool allies for some basic powerhouses.
-
Get Rage-y - This card is just good, especially with your 'Pool allies or Nick Fury/Professor X. Great tempo, a little more damage.
-
Gambit - Man, this ally is just so good he's hard not to bring in almost any deck these days, especially for going alter-ego in solo play. The deck, as published, was made before he was released which is why he isn't in the deck baseline. (I could have updated it, but this is how Rey played it in his video!)
-
Helicarrier - This old school card is still great, especially in a world with triple resources. Especially in multiplayer where you can lend this out where needed.
-
Specialized Training - The last card I wish I could include, which was in earlier versions of the deck. Ultimately I decided it already had enough low-commitment scaling and tons of damage that all works with your triple and double resources (unlike this) - but boosting your ATK and getting more card draw can only be good! And hey, using it for +THW is pretty great in multiplayer when you lack a Justice player.
-
Soaring Acrobatics - This is something I know people will want to run, but I have found lacking compared to the other setup we're bringing - and with a million resources, getting +1 per turn doesn't make a big impact.
Ultimately there are a lot more options. Too many to cover in full. You are more than welcome to tweak the deck as you please!
Thanks for reading! Good luck out there!

Dec 03, 2024Very interesting idea! |
Dec 04, 2024Is there any use of Vivian? I can't get it |

You can keep Live Dangerously out there and get a turn reprieve from icons and deal with some main scheme threat, then gain the +2 hand-size again. She can also just blank any of the pile of nasty SS (sometimes with 'When Defeated' effects). |
Dec 07, 2024This deck has been a complete blast to play. In particular, I really like how this deck can tank and heal through damage rather than relying on stuns and confuses. |
Mulligan is a cool way to help Spectrum get a form change card!! This definitely makes me want to bring her back out of the box!
