Another Psylocke deck? Check
With Web-Warriors? Check
What can i say, I have a type apparently.
I like looking for interesting ways to utilize cards and i noticed that the new Justice event Quick Quip is a skill. Who has in kit ways to recur skill cards? That's right Psy-dey-locke!
That gave me the idea for this deck which focuses on Web Warriors and skill cards.
Setup:
The setup required is pretty minimal:
Web of Life and Destiny is integral for the card draw when a WW leaves play. We do have 3 WW allies who do not require a WW card in play before they can be played. I try to Mulligan for this or Build Support as Psy-dey can clear build support by herself turn one.
Training Regimen allows us to search for a skill card. In hero you will need to discard a card from your hand after doing so, in AE it is free card draw.
Moira MacTaggert is important because we will be flipping a lot and this gives us card draw when we flip back to hero.
Vigilante Training can shuffle a yellow event back into our deck. Both yellow events we have in kit are skills meaning we can shuffle one back in and immediately search for it.
These provide solid bonuses and synergize with our strategy but are second priority compared to the ones above:
Float Like a Butterfly even though we will be focusing on thwarting with Psy-dey, there is a ton of confuse which means that this will boost our WW allies damage output as well as Psy-dey when there is not much to thwart. Also searchable through training regimen.
Skilled Investigator is also a skill that can be searched by training regimen and 0 cost being able to be played immediately. In MP, adding another copy may be beneficial.
Specialized Training is not a requirement but can boost Psy-deys thwart and provide card draw.
Heroic Intuition also boosts Psy-dey's thwart, also searchable through training regimen.
Gameplay:
As previously mentioned there are 3 WW allies who do not require a WW card in play to be played:
Spider-Woman who can also be played at a cheaper cost based on the number of confused enemies in play.
Spider-Man who has a requirement but Psy-dey meets two of those with her weapon upgrades and the 3rd can be done from hand. He's my main target for Across the Spider-Verse.
Spider-Man who has no requirements and will remove 1 threat even without a WW card in play. Later game he can provide quite a bit of threat entering play.
Combos:
There are quite a few fun combos with Quick Quip and our WW allies.
Spider-Man can come into play readying one of Psy-dey's weapon upgrades adding another resource. Use Quick Quip on him to confuse the villain then attack with Otto drawing from Web. With float in play, he would provide 3 damage, card draw, resource gen and a confuse.
Spider-Man can come in to thwart for 2 then use quick quip to deal the last damage to him providing the confuse then also triggering his ability to deal damage to the villain based on the number of boost icons discarded as well as card draw.
Ghost-Spider with 2 health left can have quick quip used to confuse the villain, then attack for 3 if float is in play. Leaving play triggers her ability to grab an identity specific event. Flurry of Blades could be grabbed to provide a large amount of damage (up to 9 with both katanas and float) or something like Psionic Redirect or Telepathic Suggestion for the villain phase.
With Float in play our allies get a nice boost to damage. This is especially great when SP//dr is out, her initial attack gets a nice boost and if we loop her we can maximize her damage output.
Our Peter Parker ally is the one who can really set off some crazy combos.
For example with him on board and Float in play, play Ghost-Spider. Use Quick Quip to deal a damage to Ghost Spider to confuse the villain and attack for 3. Have Peter attack/thwart to ready Ghost again attacking for another 3 which would cause her to leave play allowing you to search for an identity specific event and get card draw.
With Peter in play, we can use Quick Quip on him to confuse the villain then play SP//dr. She can attack for 2, have Peter attack/thwart readying SP//dr to thwart sending her back to hand and draw a card. Then re-play her to attack for another 2 damage.
Psy-dey is going to mainly be thwarting and with both Heroic and Surveillance Specialist out she can thwart for 5 with both psi-knives flipped. Making an Entrance can boost her to 7 which can also provide a heal of 2 if she clears the last threat from a scheme.
A really solid combo is to clear a side scheme with making an entrance with Justice Served in play. This would provide a ready, 2 heal and 2 card draw (skilled and surveillance). With Float in play as well and a confused villain, we could also then hit for 3 after readying from Justice Served.
To ensure we hit combos we can even use Training Regimen in hero form to search for them by discarding a card from our hand.
AE:
Flipping to AE can look like this with Vig Training, Moira and Training Regimen in play.
Having just used Quick Quip we can flip to AE use Vig Training to shuffle it back in. Next turn starting in AE, if we didn't draw into QQ we can search for it with Regimen or if we did draw it we can search for one of Psy-dey's upgrades or making an entrance.
Now we have a 7 card hand and on the flip back to hero we will draw from Moira giving us an 8 card hand with 2 resource generators that we can utilize. With WW allies in play, we have more card draw potentially as well as card draw from her basic thwart.
Other Considerations:
I initially had in 3 copies of both Making an Entrance and Quick Quip but with all of the card draw and the ability to recur them I cut a copy of each to make room.
One Way or Another was in to provide schemes to thwart and generate card draw. But in testing, I wasn't utilizing it much as the deck was getting setup pretty quickly.
Directed Force could be swapped in if you wanted to go more offensive with Psylocke pairing it with Float. Since I tested this in solo I opted for more thwart heavy.
Lady Spider was in but really wasn't seeing the table much in solo. She would probably be a better fit in MP where there are generally more schemes.
Overall I have really enjoyed this deck, Psylocke is always a blast to play and using the WWs to boost card draw makes her even more potent.
I'd love to hear any feedback or experiences with the deck!
