X-Force has a new weapon
This deck is built around Excelsior which is a new Weapon upgrade that allows you to deal 2 damage by spending an resource after you defend.
X-23 loves defending and taking the damage to allow her the free ready and we will capitalize on that by defending as often as possible.
Survival:
In order to survive, we will need ways to mitigate damage which is where the new upgrade Defensive Conditioning comes in which gives +3 to your health and +1 to our defense.
Base defending for 3 handles most villains base Attack on Expert but we also want to mitigate some damage from boost cards.
Northstar can take a damage to cancel the boost card when you're attacked. Add on Protective Training to give him an extra 3 health and stay on the board longer.
Preemptive Strike cancels the boost icons and deals damage to the villain based on the number there were.
Energy Barrier negates a damage and sends it back to an enemy.
Defense Wins Championships:
As stated this deck will be focused on defending but also dealing damage in the villain phase.
Clear Specialized Training to get Front Line Specialist in play allowing us to draw a card for taking damage as well as giving +4 to our health.
Excelsior deals 2 damage for spending a resource. This can be done everytime we defend so we can do this multiple times in a phase. Enhanced Reflexes can help us pay for these.
Electrostatic Armor deals a damage for us defending.
Adamantium Lacing gives us retaliate 1.
Cuts Both Ways gives retaliate 1 for the duration of the phase. Use this to jump up to 5 damage dealt back including Excelsior and defend for your teammates also.
This can be furthered with Energy Barrier dealing damage back as well.
Nova can also deal 2 damage to an enemy when they initiate an attack by spending a resource.
Grim Resolve is the key here as it generates a resource by taking 1 damage. We can use this to generate a ready if we perfect defend and pay for excelsior's cost.
In a 2p game, we can defend both villain attacks for our teammate and deal a ton of damage. Then come player phase we can ready up with either Grim Resolve or our claws to deal even more damage.
The gameplan is simple but effective, we defend dealing damage to the villain then we do our typical Honey Badger shenanigans during our turn.
Get Protective Training on her so we can keep her out longer and use Game Time to access more readies.
Pump up X-23's attack with Claw Mastery and her claws to decimate the villain.
I have been playing this deck since Excelsior was first announced and it has been extremely fun as well as super consistent.
I have only played this solo and 2P but I'd add in Indomitable for higher counts to take advantage of defending for the table on cuts both ways turns.
I would love to hear any feedback or experiences with it!

Oct 25, 2025Appreciate you checking it out and commenting! I typically run CoF if I'm lean into minion summoning or a hero that benefits from minions. The idea for this deck was to punish the villain as opposed to defeating minions. It could very easily be swapped in if someone wanted to go that route. An energy barrier could easily swap out for a copy of it. |
Oct 25, 2025Love this. Way to lean into the boost icon mitigation. |
Oct 26, 2025I like this a lot. Northstar is so underrated imo |

With as much damage as you're dealing back, I'm surprised you don't have a copy of Change of Fortune here, what was the thinking on that?
