Gandalf the Grey

“A wizard is never late, nor is [s]he early, [s]he arrives precisely when [s]he means to.”

In the Lord of the Rings LCG, the Gandalf hero has almost the same ability as our girl here, and since Gandalf spent way more time as Gandalf the Grey than Gandalf the White, I built an all-grey Magik deck!

See it played against Expert Juggernaut here

All grey???

Yes, this deck could be much better with a splash of color!

  • I'd like a couple more allies for Utopia readies, but this mix works well enough.
  • I had Uncanny X-Men in it for a while (and Pixie as well), but I cut them to go all grey! (That's actually why it's listed as a Leadership deck).
  • Basic Spell is decent in Magik for its versatility, especially when played from the top of your deck at a discount. It's also neither Attack nor Thwart, so get's around Stun, Confuse, Guard and Patrol (but NOT Crisis). Edit: Thanks to Mark for pointing out that I had Crisis and Patrol swapped!
  • All grey also lets you not worry about your resource mix!
  • Once played off the top of your deck for free, Resourceful is just a free resource anytime you need it.

Deck changes

Rather than posting a Version 2.0, I've noted my changes here

  • Superpower Training >> Specialized Training. I don't play Specialized very often because of the 5 threat, but Exorcism chews through it and might also Confuse, so I really like it here!
  • 1 Resourceful >> X-Gene: Once you get Limbo out you can keep swapping X-Gene to the top (to trigger all of your "specific resource" kickers) until you're ready to flip down to alter-ego and play this. I often did this with Resourceful unless I wanted a specific card on top.
  • The other Resourceful and both First Aid >> Spiritual Meditation. I'll admit, I forgot about this card, but it works almost like Scrying, so it's a good fit to help dig for what you want.

Sauron

I didn't have this idea right away. What made me really decide to dig into this deck was the Sauron modular encounter set which came in the Iceman hero pack!

While it's not allowed by the rules (but definitely allowed by the rule of cool), I'm replacing Magik's Nemesis Set with the Sauron mod set, and I'm playing on Standard 3 so I'll hopefully see him fairly often!

Since it isn't allowed by the rules, you have to make the following ruling...

Happy adventuring through Middle Earth!

Cool deck and write up. Just one thing you seem to have Patrol and Crisis the wrong way round. Crisis prevents threat being removed from the main scheme while Patrol stops you from thwarting the main scheme. Basic spell should get around Patrol but not Crisis.

May use X-Gene instead of one Resourceful. Cool deck, now " It's time for Limbo !"

@Mark you're right, I swapped them. I'll edit the original. Thanks for catching that!

@SpiderPK yeah X-Gene would be good and I think I'll also trade Superpower Training for Specialized Training. Her Thwart 4 for 2 (1) is so super good! I'm also dropping the First Aid and the other Resourceful for 3 Spiritual Meditation.

I've had a lot of fun with Iceman (and haven't played Bishop yet) but Magik has been the most fun I think.

If I was going to add aspect cards I think I'd either go Leadership or Justice. I've played her in Perfect Defense and liked it a lot too!
