Me Magnet, You Mind
We all know Magneto only deals with top quality and the highest of standards (we'll conveniently forget Toad)...so it's no surprise that he has engaged the X-Men's most powerful psionics, to form his team.
I Don't Mind....They Do....
A long list of psionic allies is only betrayed by one - Beast - whose genius and Response - is far too valuable to pass up. Use Beast to pay for another ally or to get one of the supports or upgrades down. Magneto has powerful upgrades and the evergreen Utopia are worth considering here.
All allies except for Legion can base thwart for 2, so there should be no shortage of keeping threat down, and similarly Legion is the only ally that doesn't have a Response after entering play. He still is a worthy ally, but we'll see he's actually one that you may consider sticking around...
Magneto is a Anti-Hero for a Reason
So why include so many allies with Response abilities? The answer to that is Magneto's penchant to "use and abuse". With Sneak Attack, you can cheaply bring an ally in for one base action and whatever Response they can give you - White Queen can remove a villain's tough or remove a status token from a friendly character; Mirage can stun; Phoenix can heal and ready another ally; Kid Omega can further remove threat or cause damage....and Professor X ....can do what he does best!
The inclusion of Noble Sacrifice also gives the opportunity to make the most of a Sneak Attack by using up the ally to heal Magneto and give him a tough card before they leave play...Erik loves mutantkind but it's never below him to use his fellow mutants for his own personal gain.
Working As a Team
Although Magneto can as much stab you in the back, as be your most loyal ally, there is still a good reason to work as a team. By controlling any one of your psionic allies (or even Stepford Cuckoos ) you are able to essentially use Cerebro for picking and choosing any of your psionic allies from your deck - as either another resource, or a strategic move to bring that certain ally in play.
X-Mansion is also included as it can prolong the life of Legion or Beast...both of whom are solid enough to keep thwarting or attacking to keep the side schemes and minions at bay.
Team Training and Uncanny X-Men also add more hp to your allies to make the most of their base stats...but don't feel obliged to keep them hanging around if you want to play another ally with a certain Response to help you. After playing Team Training and Uncanny X-Men, any ally you play will have that added flexibility of doing one more base action and stick around to chump block or Noble Sacrifice if needed.
Won't Stay Down also offers you a chance to choose a specific ally to bring back into your hand (and into play)...and with Magneto wanting to flip down to bring more cards back into the deck ( as well as Asteroid M with magnetic cards and healing) Won't Stay Down is handy in a pinch.
A Master....
Finally Deft Focus has been included to give Magneto that extra luxury of playing his hero events, or to put his Magnetic Bubble into play.
Magneto can do it all...and with his Psionic X-Men...he truly becomes someone to fear.
