Bishop's cards incentivize you to add a bunch of resources to his deck. Resource cards are powerful, but too many can lead to dead hands with nothing to play. When I first started playing him he didn't feel weak, but it was clear that unlocking his full potential is difficult. This deck does, and it's so fun!

Better Out Than In

What do I want out of a Bishop deck?

  1. Bishop's Uniform and Bishop's Rifle in play ASAP

    • These cards are vital for his kit to work, and after they're in play, you've essentially won the game. This deck reliably finds both upgrades by turn 2.
  2. Plenty of Resource Cards

    • Bishop's abilities don't have an upper limit on the number of resource cards in your hand. To make full use of them, you need a lot!
  3. Fluidity

    • I want every hand to be good. With 13 resources in the deck, there needs to be reliable and powerful ways to spend your cards.

How To Get Turn 2 Uniform and Rifle

With Bishop's Uniform in play, you're essentially immortal, without it, your kit doesn't really function. Once Bishop's Rifle is also in play, you'll have reliable ranged damage, and 5+ healing every turn. The only question is what's the fastest way to get both in play?

My answer is to use his alter-ego response that allows you to add a TEMPORAL card from your discard pile to your hand. Here's what to do:

This strategy works consistently. If both upgrades end up in the discard pile prioritize the Bishop's Uniform and flip back to alter-ego on turn 4 for Bishop's Rifle because Bishop's Uniform is much more powerful than the rifle. Pay attention to where the rifle is. If you haven't seen it in the discard pile after playing Call for Aid the card draw from White Tiger and using Make the Call on Nick Fury can help you find it.


A Second Hero

Better Out Than In

The Spectrum ally is extremely expensive for most characters and without a wild resource to tuck under her she isn't worth the cost. Call for Aid is guaranteed to be either White Tiger or Spectrum and you almost always will have a wild in hand due to your hero ability and the Call for Aid Digging Deep combo. A 5 cost card is negligible for Bishop. This makes Spectrum the perfect ally for this deck! She is a 3 THW 3ATK 5 hp ally that you can easily afford and will never need to block with. Between that, your basic activation, Bishop's Rifle, and resource sinks, the villains just can't keep up with this deck.


Consistency

After finding your upgrades the game gets really easy. Use your Energy Absorption ability on your hero to increase your economy. You rarely need to block with allies because uniform heals you so much. The rest of the deck makes sure your resources have places to go:

  • Bishop has resource sinks in his kit. Super-Charged, Malcolm, and Randall can help you get good damage and thwarting.
  • Lockjaw is great for consistency and very easy to afford with this deck.
  • Machine Man can provide burst damage and thwarting when necessary.
  • Gamora can be put into play with Make the Call and find events, which gives your resources somewhere to go.
  • Nick Fury can be used for card draw, damage, or thwarting. This is versatile and all of the options are viable because Bishop really doesn't care how expensive cards are. Use whatever effect is most useful at the time.
  • Professor X helps you go to alter-ego if you need to use your Temporarily Displaced ability to find a TEMPORAL card.

I recommend using this deck against the tough villains, pairing it with weak heroes, or just eviscerating a villain of your choice.

Will have to give this a go, looks like a super fun, effective Bishop deck. I also love the Spectrum ally but find her difficult to play in most decks, so that's just icing on the cake !

I definitely agree that Temporally Displaced is the way to go to get your key set-up cards into play. I have an Aggression deck that runs Toe to Toe to mill the deck faster in that manner. I would also consider Face the Past as it can see an extra 6 cards - at least 3 to hand and at most 3 to discard.

@Swarles90 I play tested this deck quite a bit. I took it up against Magneto at first and it trivialized the scenario. It's very very strong. Let me know how it goes if you try it out!

@Drakow Toe to Toe makes a lot of sense for him. Face the Past is a good consideration. I thought about it and ultimately decided against it, but you're right that it helps you see more cards. If you want even more consistency to find the upgrades by turn 2 it's definitely a good option. If you try it with both I'd like to hear how it went!

Call for Aid and Spectrum with Digging Deep and all the other resources available in a Bishop deck = very clever!

I note that you include Endurance. I always include it in Bishop decks. It's low cost, pairs well with Bishop's Uniform, and takes Bishop to a comfortable 15 hit points.

Regarding consistency: I've been warming up to Plan B as a resource sink for those times when I have a hand full of resource cards and nothing to spend them on.

Bishop is my favourite hero and with your build, I want again play it! Good game :) You talk about @machine man in your explain but it doesn't exist in your build?

@Daring Lime Took me two tries to defeat Magneto - the first time around I got really unlucky and Call For Aid discarded too many cards so the deck got reshuffled before I had a chance to flip to alter ego. Then in back to back encounter phases I pulled three minions and Shadow of the Past with no way to actually deal with them xD By the time I dealt with that, I got schemed out lol.

Second time was much, much better and I was set up by about round 3, then it was pretty smooth sailing from then on!
