Well...if ever there was a hero that played to my preferred playstyle, it is the Lady Gamora, herself! I've always preferred heroes with very little set-up that can go right out of the gates swinging (looking at you, Captain Marvel, Wasp and Scarlet Witch).

Deck basis and Hero cards:

There's not a lot to say about Gamora really; she is rather straightforward in what she does, yet she is incredibly flexible and incredibly strong with it. Play as many cheap attack and thwart events as possible to utilise her hero ability (this even works in the Villain phase, so Crosscounter is a pretty darn bonkers card). I love playing Spider-Woman for the sheer flexibility of the deck; Gamora takes this in a different direction in that though she doesn't have quite so many different variety of decks that Jessica has, but she also isn't stuck with having to have exactly 50/50 from both aspects.

Her hero suite of cards are pretty much exclusively Attack and Thwart events, which is great. Outside of those, you have possibly one of the best resource generators in Keen Instincts. Though not quite as universal as the likes of Super-Soldier Serum and God of Thunder, it's cheaper and focuses on what Gamora wants to do anyways. Conditioning Room is just great as it's pretty much either a free resource or another potential card to play AND it heals. Rounding out the cards is the excellent Gamora's Sword, which is amazing for pinging off the likes of Drones and Tough status cards.

Justice:

Now Justice is my go-to aspect, and I've got several decks for it already on here. That said, I mostly play Solo or double-handed/two player so it's often necessary and it also plays to Gamora's strengths too.

To start with, it's hard not to go with the old cheap favourites Clear the Area (3 copies) and Multitasking (2 copies). Having played a lot of GMW, I really have seen the value in Multi-tasking, which I wasn't sure about initially outside of Ms Marvel and her Shrink ability. That said, dependant on the scenario and your needs, you can switch round which you have 3 of. I should be able to keep a handle on the threat nicely between those, Set the Pace and Forward Momentum. This then leads nicely into Turn the Tide, which is fantastic for 0 cost. With Gamora's Sword out, you just need to keep the main scheme clear or remove a side scheme and you're getting 4 damage for free. Bargain!

To fill out Justice, I've bunged in Wiccan and Quake, purely as chump blockers. Gamora is a tad fragile so some speed bumps are always appreciated. Finally, with plenty of Thwart events, Sense of Justice is a bit of a no-brainer.

Out-of-Aspect:

For the 6 out-of-aspect cards, I've plumped for Clobber and Drop Kick. The former is handy as it's a fairly costed in that it can come back to my hand to provide a resource for another card. It also has a resource which can contribute towards Drop Kick. That in itself is a rather pricey event for sure, but it hurts the villain, can give Gamora some protection in the form of Stun but also nets her another card which can pay for another cheap event. Fortunately there are two copies of Keen Instincts which can help pay for this easily. I admit I was skeptical to start with but it's been very handy!

Basic:

Rounding out the deck, I've got Rocket Raccoon and Groot. For their resource costs, they bring a lot to the table, especially Groot who can help fend off any damage from minions lying around without much consequence. Rocket is a bit of a flex card in that if the scenario is quite minion heavy (Mutagen Formula or Badoon Warrior) he's fantastic, but otherwise I'll trade him out for Nick Fury. Mockingbird is in there for some protection, and Ironheart is another cheap chump blocker. Between her ETB ability, Clear the Area and Drop Kick, they can help mitigate Gamora's low card draw (something I've been used to playing Wasp). Add in Endurance and the 3 double resource cards, and you're good to go!

I've been mighty impressed with Gamora ever since her cards were spoiled, and with some proxying, I've been able to play against a lot of Expert villains (she's so far taken out Expert Core, Green Goblin and the Red Skull villains. I'm moving onto GMW this weekend). She might not be Doctor Strange tier, but she packs a punch, has some cool deck flexibility and is just a heap of fun to play! I'll be trying out some different combos for sure. I've yet to try out Gamora in multiplayer, but I suspect I'd change a few things round. She certainly seems stronger in Solo so will have a play around with double-handed.

Looking forward to seeing what y'all come up with!

Great write-up for the first Gamers deck! Since Gamora is so squishy did you consider Booster Boots for her?

Thanks for posting this! I have been switching her aspect up throughout the GMW campaign and am getting ready to tackle Escape the Museum so have been looking for a justice deck.

I started Drang using a protection deck with a smattering of justice and aggression cards to help facilitate her ability...holding the villain at bay and whittling it down with events was super fun. Then ran aggression against Infiltrate to burn Collector down before he could get me with threat or an overflowing collection. I am thinking that I'll end up back in protection for Nebula and Ronan. I love her playstyle and how she seems to work well with multiple aspects.

Cool take on Gamora, close to what I built too (justice / aggro with much of the same cards...). Her abilities seemed to scream for it!

Good job!

Great deck! Would you consider cards like Counterpunch and You'll Pay for That as off aspect cards for the extra ability triggers?

May 14, 2021 neothechosen · 9806

Hi! Me again... How'd you manage to put your list together? The website won't allow me to put cards from two aspects!

@Onions Thanks!

@InigoMontoya Many thanks! Tbh, as I was focusing more on events I could at least use basic DEF in a pinch but I found I didn’t need to do that often. Between Groot and cheap allies, I wasn’t too badly off. That said, I’m tackling GMW later so that may be change!

@Onions cheers! I did but with Gamora being a tad squishy, I didn’t necessarily want her to be taking too many hits. If I were playing Protection main, I’d definitely consider those two for sure so as to get use of her hero ability in the Villain phase.

@neothechosen ha! Great minds indeed. I’ve found her to be very similar in ways to Ms Marvel. Indeed, I actually think she’s a little stronger perhaps? She certainly is less reliant on flipping to AE which is something I very much like about MM. But yeah, Aggression and Justice really suit her.

This looks great, I was thinking on a Protection/Justice build initially but this nicely covers both your bases. Thanks for the write-up too.

Gamora is such a great hero! being able to take Clobber and Drop Kick is so great for justice. can't wait to try this out.

May 15, 2021 Wosho · 1

Sense of justice is needed? with keen instincts.

May 15, 2021 NocturnalAnimal · 16163

@dr00 cheers! Liking the look of your SL deck, gonna pair it up with this and go double-handed :)

@Wosho well I’d rather be using Keen Instincts for the likes of Decisive Blow and Drop Kick, so Keen Instincts helps pay for Thwart. Besides, it’s a resource generator that’s sat on the board, and it’s been very handy.

@NocturnalAnimalthank you, looks like nice deck so will start testing Guardians with this one :)

I have swapped out Quake for Cosmo because the deck is so Event-heavy, you can usually get a few activations out of him.

May 16, 2021 cosmoton · 1

Played this yesterday vs Drang, feels great! Unsure about Clobber though, felt like there's gotta be a better option but can't think of one.

May 16, 2021 NocturnalAnimal · 16163

@Designhacker totally forgot about Cosmo! Really it’s dealer’s choice as they’re more than likely just going to be a road block in front of the villain’s attack anyways.

@cosmoton yeah the deck has been a blast :) I know what you mean re: Clobber. Realistically there’s not much else I’d consider. Could possibly plump for Relentless Assault if you’re playing a minion heavy scenario but I think that’s the only other one I’d potentially use in this deck.

So far I've been finding the Drop Kicks a little hard to play and get a stun out of. Once I have both Keen Instincts out, it becomes easier, but there's still hands where I just don't draw any extra Strength or Wild resources. So far I've been playing her paired with Aggression Star-Lord, and have done expert Klaw and regular Drang just fine, but I think I might have successfully used a Drop Kick once (maybe twice?) between both fights. I like it in the deck conceptually, but it's being a bit finicky in practice. Maybe I just need more games with it.

May 17, 2021 Ah_Pook · 13

Could sub in Tackle instead of Drop Kick, less damage and you don't get the draw but you also don't need triple fists to play it.

May 18, 2021 cosmoton · 1

It's hard playing anything 3+ resources with her I find, since you usually have something cheap that's 0/1 you can play too. She definitely has consistency though. I swapped out 3xDrop Kick and 3xClobber for 2xRelentless Assault, 2xMomentum Shift, and 2xFirst Hit. The minions are heavy in GMW and the extra heal + the extra activation on the villain turn for First Hit seems pretty good. I might try even something like Surprise Attack, since she likes to flip pretty frequently. Lots of options I think.

May 18, 2021 NocturnalAnimal · 16163

Drop Kick definitely is one that had me pausing but tbh, once the Upgrades were all out over 50% of the deck was either or resources (plus the 2x Keen Instincts) so was never really a problem to play. I just like the utility of Drop Kick, if it goes off you get a lot for the 3 cost. If not, I'll just bung it to play something else, there's certainly plenty else to play.

You could certainly try Tackle though. Momentum Shift is great but with the various allies and Drop Kick, I found I wasn't really taking that much damage. I'll have to try swapping them around.

In theory, I love Surprise Attack. In practice, between that and Lay Down the Law I only ever draw them when I'm already in hero mode and I don't necessarily always flip to AE mode every turn either. Certainly give it a bash though and let me know if it works out though!

The drop kicks are perfect. Just finished a run through of GMW and I rarely was unable to play them.

Hey mate! I had a delay on purchasing Gamora. Now she arrived and I'm looking out for a TrueSolo deck to try GMW Expert. I was kinda doing the same as yours! :D

I was wondering, why no Under Surveillance? This card saved me so many times in every TrueSolo game. In this particular one maybe you remove threat that much that is not needed? Or would you consider that anyways? I feel like going out in winter without a jacket without this card :D

I was also thinking about Skilled Investigator?

Or you tried to thin out Non-Event cards the most?

For Events, I think I'll try Dropkick and Tackle. I wanted to include First Hit to make use of Gamore Hero abilities "out of turn", but I don't think it's worth it.

Personally I think I'll run Impede instead of Clobber.

Into the Fray also tingles me.

Ally pool kinda the same, I'll try also Jessica Jones for the amount of sideschemese there is in GMW

cool, i will try this soon and letyou know how i like it

Jul 08, 2021 StuWal19 · 1

@Ah_Pook replacing tackle is actually a good call. Less things need to hit.

I was also thinking the aggression preparation cards lie and wait and counter attack as a cheaper option to do the same amount of damage as clobber (counter attack is a physical resource)

Aug 03, 2021 Yepesnopes · 17

Hi @NocturnalAnimalit is a very cool deck. I am playing a very similar one in our run of GMW campaign, but with less allies, which I swapped for Skilled Investigator and "Think Fast!". I have found very difficult to play Turn the Tide because in GMW plans have a lot of threat (we are 3 players), and it hardly ever happens that I clean a plan when I have a copy of Turn the Tide in my hands.

What would you swap it for?

Jan 22, 2022 pheips · 45

@NocturnalAnimal This is such a fun and good deck. Just since a couple of weeks, I have the guardians cycle and only then did I stumble upon your decks for Gamora, Groot and Drax and I love them all. This deck and your Groot deck made me finally like Justice, which didn't click for me before. Your decks just run so smooth.

I will now try your other decks and am very looking forward to what you'll come up with in the future. Do you have any plans for StarLord?

Very fast hero and deck. I won some games in couple rounds

Dec 31, 2023 Tamaky · 31

@NocturnalAnimal nice deck! I line it very much!

I wonder, since im onlu playing 3 to 4 player game, what changes would you make if you only have to deal with schemes, threat and villain ?
