Iron Man V Venom for GetUpandGame!PerfectMatchUp

Hi welcome to the thirteenth in a series of decks I plan to build directly influenced by the amazing Get Up and Game! My goal with this series is to create a unique deck inspired by each challenge match-up in the video using all the suggested cards plus some of my own to create a deck that any player can use to check out the challenge. If you’re missing some cards from a deck please ask in the comments and I’ll do my best to find replacements from your collection so that you can have fun too! Hopefully I can build a deck that can beat the villain on both standard and expert. I’ll try to document any tweaks I made while playing the deck too.

Next up we have Iron Man against Venom and this is another tough solo matchup where its possible for the villain to win in a single turn. My standard game went off without a hitch but I lost my first two expert games back to back. Both were due to some bad opening cards draws. In the first game I drew Shadow of the Past first turn and in the second game Venom schemed with a 3 pip boost card and then I immediately drew an advance which was enough to lose the game immediately. I had better luck in my next two games and managed two expert wins!

You really are not going to be able to turn up on turn 1 in this match up. I aim to get three tech upgrades in play on the opening turn so that by turn 2 I should have enough to turn into Iron Man but if you pull an ally with THW on expert, it may be worth playing one turn one since removing the initial 2 THW on the main scheme will provide a significant advantage against losing on the first villain phase. Getting at least 5-6 pieces of tech out is your primary goal but on Expert getting off an early Repulsor Blast or Supersonic Punch is extremely valuable so that you can get rid of Tooth and Nail as swiftly as possible since this extra encounter card is really going to hurt.

I recommend focusing on the cheaper tech first like Electrostatic Armor,Rocket Boots and Mark V Helmet. If you're lucky enough to start with a double resource, then Energy Barrier, Arc Reactor, Powered Gauntlets and Plasma Pistol are easy to get out as well. Mark V Armor is expensive but usually worth it for the HP boost although if you can put out 2 other tech or the armor early on, I'd go with the cheaper tech.

Quincarrier is a huge plus here since it can help you get out more tech in the early game and power your Rocket Boots in the later game. Pepper Potts is great especially if you can get her out with a double resource and then immediately use that resource again from the discard pile and Stark Tower can be a big help in recurring tech you toss with Repurpose.

First Hit helps keep the small minions away from you and Preemptive Strike can turn the nastiest boost cards back on Venom.

Your allies are primarily here to chump when Venom unleashed a huge attack but also have various other uses as well. Once you're set up I recommend using a Supersonic Punch or Repulsor Blast to flip the Bell Tower with plenty of chime counters before laying waste to Venom. Overall I think if you can get past the first turn or two, you should be able to build up a large amount of tech upgrades and slam Venom down. I had a lot of fun with this matchup!
