Ant-Man and Wasp added cards that made Thor very fun and enjoyable as a hero. Thor always had to be in aggression and it lacked cards to make him really shine, but with the releases of Ant-Man and Wasp, there comes a Thor deck like no Thor deck before it.
The premise of the deck is simple. Spend the first deck cycle putting out cards like Asgard, Avengers Mansion, Hall of Heroes, Quincarrier, and God of Thunder. Along with any other upgrades or using Defender of the Nine Realms once per hero phase. This will give Thor a solid base to ensure his hand is full and has the flexibility to play his cards.
With the setup round out of the way, the things that make Thor so exceptional is how he can not only demolish minions by the handful (yes, I have taken out 5 minions in one hero phase), but also remove threat and heal almost as well as the rest of the aspects.
Into the Fray helps compliment Hammer Throw. Previously, you'd need to use Relentless Assault to compliment Hammer Throw for minion removal, but it felt so lackluster dealing tiny amounts of chip damage to the villain. Now, Into the Fray doesn't do more damage to the villain, but it does allow Thor to control the flow of the game. It's versatility is key. Any time you can stick to a strategy while injecting some versatility in a card game, you've got yourself a winning strategy.
After you use Defender of the Nine Realms, get that minion engaged with you, draw two cards, remove three threat, and exhaust Avengers Mansion, you'll typically have a wide suite of options to deal with the current board. You'll often be able to do either Hammer Throw or Into the Fray, choose whether or not you want to attack the minion that came in for four damage to increase their benefit, and then benefit even further by tacking on a Moment of Triumph or Chase Them Down to heal a large chunk of missing health or remove even more threat.
Your allies are with you to apply even more flexible damage counters to get Into the Fray into that sweet spot to remove 5 threat off the main scheme. Sentry is just a powerhouse in this deck and getting the extra encounter card can often times be beneficial to Thor as it'll increase the odds of flipping a minion on the villain turn and netting another two card draws. Everyone else is an Asgardian and can be fetched with For Asgard! though I often never find a need for it. Thor does a respectable amount of damage to the villain, Valkyrie helps mitigate large swing turns when a lot of minions enter play, and Heimdall will often just close out a game by the time you reach a comfortable enough spot to play him.
Piercing Strike doesn't quite fit the theme, but it serves the purpose of removing the tough status. Thor hits too hard to be wasting a single attack on clearing tough. Brute Force may be an option to replace this, but through some initial testing I was always finding I'd have just preferred Piercing Strike as it's a bit more flexible due to not being tied to Thor's basic attack.
I have completed all expert solo and two player scenarios with this build and can honestly say future cards will have to be very impressive to make this list. If you never liked Thor in the past and haven't dusted him off lately, now is as good a time as any to give the God of Thunder a try again.

Feb 16, 2021I did consider TBE and played it for awhile in place of Endurance (since Thor has a baseline 19 health anyway with his helmet in play), but since it only affects 13 cards, 7 of them being things that permanently stay in play, it ultimately wasn't worth it. The value proposition is that you'll draw it before your other cards. In that scenario, it works good, but if it's near the end of your deck and it only affects cards the second time through when you've already played most of the cards it helps it's not as good. It is however good to ensure you always have a free resource to play Mjolnir after a Hammer Throw. Whether you feel that's worth it entirely depends on the player. |
Feb 16, 2021Totally agree, TBE is incredible when you get it early. Else... I've also been running Assess the Situation, same analysis: incrdible early, less inviting when you've got Avengers Mansion or Asgard in play, it becomes less and less atractive when the momentum shifts in your favor. |
Some love for Thor! Yessssssss!
Solid list dude! In recent changes I made to mine, I included Endurance, Down Time and Hall of Heroes like you did... sure helps a lot. Did you consider Team-Building Exercise? I usually run 1 as well as Quincarrier, it helps with Asgard and Avengers cards (including Avengers Mansion and Quincarrier.
