"The 'Pool Aspect of the Speed Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural." - Emperor Poolpatine
As a former villain, Pietro Maximoff has to regularly balance the "Force" of his power to avoid losing control. At max speed, his powers are devastating...
Use the Speed Force, Pietro!
Overview
Quicksilver prepares to go full power and then unleashes it in an instant to defeat the villain before he can lose control.
Key Setup Cards
-
Friction Resistance is absolutely essential like most Quicksilver builds. Play it ASAP when you see it or grab it with Superpower Training.
-
Deft Focus gives a discount for almost all of Quicksilver's cards.
-
Serval Industries is great to use when you flip to alter-ego to get whatever Quicksilver cards you need back into your deck. Important late game to get Maximum Velocity shuffled back in for the final rush.
The "Unnatural" ('Pool) Abilities
-
Stick-To-Itiveness pairs extremely well with Friction Resistance and becomes a guaranteed free ready every turn outside of having ready blockers like Need for Speed.
-
Healing Factor keeps Quicksilver alive and healthy and helps keep the 'Pool resources as double or even triple resources.
-
Laser Swords and Live Dangerously pair together for +4ATK in the final rush.
-
Plot Convenience stashes Live Dangerously until you are ready to use it.
The Stat Boosts
-
Maximum Velocity pairs with your readies to have explosive single rounds.
-
Accelerated Reflex boosts DEF. Since Quicksilver has a free defense action with Super Speed, the DEF boost is always helpful.
-
Hyper Perception boosts THW and this is important in solo for managing board state while setting up. Could be skipped in multiplayer if teammate thwarting is strong enough.
-
Reinforced Sinew boosts ATK. Play it when you can.
-
Specialized Training nets you Combat Specialist which gives +1 ATK and an extra card every turn you can use a basic attack.
-
Laser Swords are part of the powerful +4ATK combo with Live Dangerously for the final rush, but can be skipped on the 1st deck pass if needed as they are expensive with unreliable initial benefit.
-
Adrenaline Rush(s) are used for the final rush, so they are lower priority if there are better options.
-
In multiplayer, an aggression teammate can also give you Combat Training and Aggressive Conditioning for even more ATK.
The Readies
-
Of course, Quicksilver has his built-in Super Speed and Always Be Running is basically free to play once you have Friction Resistance.
-
Stick-To-Itiveness pairs extremely well with Friction Resistance and becomes a guaranteed free ready every turn outside of having ready blockers like Need for Speed.
-
You will want to keep at least 1 ally in play as long as you can to use Earth's Mightiest Heroes. By end game, you should be set up enough to have all 3 of your allies in play in case you draw all 3 of these.
-
Tenacity(s) are for the final rush and are lower priority. Like Stick-To-Itiveness, they synergize with Friction Resistance so the cost to use them when they're on the board is basically free.
-
Face the Past can be tricky to play. Avalanche has Incite 2 and for each identity, either does 2 indirect damage or exhausts them. Be prepared for that before playing this.
-
You can get even more readies from teammates if you are playing multiplayer. Check out Nebula's S.C.A.R.S. for a deck designed to maximize readies for Avenger heroes.
The Allies
All allies can help with Earth's Mightiest Heroes so they should stick around as long as possible.
-
Scarlet Witch improves Superpowered Siblings, so she is top priority to keep in play.
-
Yellow Jacket helps find an upgrade when he enters play and with 16 upgrades to start with, he has a good chance to succeed.
-
Blade is cheap for Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
The Final Rush
With all the setup above, you can reach crazy high damage numbers. But the key thing to remember is that you often won't need ALL of it and you have a variety of options especially in lower player counts. You can calculate damage beforehand to know when you are ready.
The best card to have in-hand is Maximum Velocity for the easy +2ATK. Any readies you have are great too.
Quicksilver will then tap into the 'Pool side of the Speed Force (Live Dangerously from Plot Convenience to get +4ATK with Laser Swords).
Fire off any Adrenaline Rush(s) you have and request any multiplayer boosts like Morale Boost.
Then go all out with a flurry of basic attacks and all your readies to rush down the villain.
Other Thoughts
-
Evaluate Threat is mostly for Avengers Mansion and is lower priority if you can't clear it quickly.
-
Extra Healing Factor(s) can be fun for multiplayer when passing them through Plot Convenience.
-
I consider this a pseudo-Aggression deck. The damage you can do with these options is so great, I have actually skipped the main Laser Swords combo in solo a couple of times.
May the 4th be with you! Hope you enjoy this deck and let me know how it works out if you try it!
