Overview:
(Yes, 45 cards. This is on purpose to not draw too many encounter cards. See at the end to remove/add cards ;) )
- Play Style : Immortal, regenerating, cosmic being. Health-as-Resources.
- Fun: Extremely high! (one of the biggest health pool available in the game, but you regenerate! Laugh at damage encounter cards, you just don't die).
- Difficulty : Medium to High (you need to know what's in your deck and/or discard pile to get the most out of it).
- Power level : Strong (in solo and multi)
- Recommended Player Count : Any (in multi you can often spare an ally to defend for others while taking hits like they're nothing).
This deck has won against multiple Expert villains. I haven't tried Ronan but it should be excellent at tanking Fanaticism hits now that I think about it :o
Concept:
Adam Warlock lacks consistency. You never know if you'll be able to thwart/attack next turn, nor what you'll be able to play during the game.
This deck tries to solve these by giving you:
- 8-9 options per turn (The Sorcerer Supreme, Symbiote Suit, Avengers Mansion and Front Line Specialist).
- redundancy (to boost your HP, to discard your deck, to confuse, etc.).
- 37HP + regeneration, which is extreme tankiness and a lot of time to find the perfect cards to defeat the villain (All three Conditioning, Endurance, Front Line Specialist and Symbiote Suit).
- good basic powers and allies activations to manage imminent threats in the meantime. We don't rely much on his hero ability.
How to play this deck / combos:
1. Accepting Adam Warlock
- Playing Adam Warlock is always a bit random! Accept that. But also know that the deck packs a lot of redundancy! You have to compose with what arrives first in your hand, yet every path is good, this is part of the fun!
- You WON'T get to play every card or combo in the deck in any one game. But hopefully, the main combo + 1 or 2 smaller ones will be enough ;) For instance: sometimes you just won't find the opportunity to play the Rogue ally, and that's okay! Rarely you'll discard Aggressive Conditioning the whole game, that's also okay! Quantum Magic will get into your hand at some point, you'll be able to choose what you want to prioritize this game.
- Do not hesitate to discard your cards. The random part of Adam is fairly mitigated here, as we can survive quite some attacks from the enemy.
- Cosmic Wards are surprisingly good in this deck! Even more during early game when you're still vulnerable. Try to play this card whenever you see it! It counteracts the fact you draw 1 extra encounter card with Symbiote Suit. Btw, be a cosmic gentleman and houserule that the extra card is only for you in multiplayer :)
- Adam's Karmic Staff is super good. But you won't always be able to play the 3 (rather expensive,) Mystic Senses + Warlock's Cape cards. They're good to have, but this is part of doing with what the Cosmic Gods gave you so...it's okay, your hero ability isn't that useful here anyway.
2. Early game
- Focus on playing Soul World and cards that increase your max hit points. Also play The Sorcerer Supreme, Bloodgem and Clarity of Purpose when you see them.
- Use Quantum Magic to find those cards (especially Soul World on your first cycle!).
- Once you get Soul World, you can start rushing through your deck (see below). Ideally you always want 1 counter on Soul World unless you have 30+ HP.
- If you discarded Soul World and both Quantum Magic, rush through your deck (see below).
3. Reaching 37 Hit Points
- 11 (Adam Warlock base) + 9 (All three Conditioning) + 3 (Endurance) + 10 (Symbiote Suit) + 4 (Front Line Specialist) = 37
- That's a bit more than two Hulk's worth, but you regenerate and draw way more cards :p
- In multiplayer, you can often defend with an ally for another player.
4. Use your health pool
- The main way to use it is to: laugh at encounter cards that deal damage!!! (including villain extra attacks, quickstrike minions, etc.) This is incredibly fun and a great power fantasy :)
- Retaliate X, pay-to-remove attachments and attachments/obligations sending you to alter-ego also are not an issue here. In other words, very few encounter cards can really hurt you.
- Pay cards every turn with Clarity of Purpose and Bloodgem. 3HP is less than 10% of your health. Remember that paying 2 hit points to play a +3HP card like Defensive Conditioning is great value!
- Draw cards with Taunt.
- Deal damage with Toe to Toe.
- Confuse with "Think Fast!".
- Boost the Rogue ally to 5 THW/ATK.
5. Cycling your deck
- Pure draw power will cycle your deck faster: The Sorcerer Supreme, Symbiote Suit, Front Line Specialist, Avengers Mansion, Nick Fury, Spiritual Meditation, Taunt are all great.
- Your SPELL events all help you to cycle your deck while affecting the board.
- Caliban can get you either Professor X, Rogue or a full reset.
- Call for Aid gets you a full reset every time.
- Summoning Spell can give you great allies, especially Nick Fury (drawing 3 cards) and Rogue. You can get "unlucky" and put White Fox into play. This is why she could get taken out of the deck, but she was more often useful than not! Pip the Troll is also a meh draw. If able, you should then keep him in play the whole game to avoid this happening again.
- Every time you discard cards there is a chance to put White Fox into play and/or draw Digging Deep for extra effectiveness.
- 45 cards help with "not drawing a third encounter card every turn".
6. Going into Alter-Ego
- Confuse the villain with Professor X, "Think Fast!" and Battlefield Benevolence. Remember to deal 2 damage to the villain even at early stage.
- You won't need to go every turn, especially when you reach 20+ hit points. But don't hesitate to use your 1 soul counter, you'll cycle your deck soon enough anyway.
- Remember to use as many HP as you can before healing. Bloodgem is NOT hero-restricted ;)
7. End game
- By this point, you probably have 37HP (or close), 9 cards per turn in hero form and a lot of resources.
- There are many path to victory, but Taunt + Toe to Toe + Counterattack + Dauntless sure is fun!
- Otherwise just use your 3 ATK twice with Warlock's Cape + 1-3 Karmic Blast.
Other cards to consider:
- You could remove 1 White Fox because discarding her with Summoning Spell can feel bad. However she saved the situation more than once in my playtests.
- It could be worth going to 49 cards to include those 4 aspect cards with great synergies:
- "You'll Pay for That!"
- Great Responsibility
- The Night Nurse: always useful, even if your alter-ego form removes status cards. Med Team can also be amazing if you prioritize Rogue.
- Domino: to see even more cards of your deck early game, then trigger the classic Digging Deep / White Fox combo.
Anyway, enjoy, have fun,
and don't forget to drop a like/fav, it's always appreciated :)

@everyone: Oops, I just remembered (after playing like 6-7 games with this deck) that Rogue only cares about "printed THW / ATK" hahaha :p Sorry for that, and enjoy being a cosmic god :) |

Insane! I’m here for it. A tank build that would make The Hulk blush. Very clever concept for addressing his consistency issue. Thanks for the detailed write-up.
