The brand new Web Warriors are starting off strong. Miles Morales is easily one of the strongest heroes in the game with his easy access to all statuses, low cost curve, good stats, and very powerful events. This deck uses Miles' allies and events as a toolbox, picking the right superhero or superpower for the task at hand. Playing this deck truly feels like Web Warriors are popping in and out of the Spider-Verse!

**

Dimensional Drawing

**

The cornerstone of this deck is Web of Life and Destiny. WoLaD let's us draw 1 any time a WW ally leaves play. This turns all of our WW allies as floating extra resources to smooth out turns or draw us big hands after a round of chumping. This effect is unlimited as WoLaD does not exhaust, and can be triggered by any player's WW and for any reason. On top of that, it is free to play for Miles. The object of this deck is to use our discard as a toolbox to grab various allies and our deck as a toolbox to grab various events, all the while generating +1s from WoLaD.

We are running 3x Make the Call to bypass the play restrictions of Spider-Man, the other WWs, and Gamora. We can grab any ally we want depending on our situation. Rapid Response allows us to get the WWs back at -1 cost (3ER vs their 4ER). Losing a health isn't a hindrance for us, since it just means they'll leave play sooner and get us a sweet draw from WoLaD. Across the Spider-Verse is another power card for us, getting us a WW from discard for -1ER and allowing us to repeat it's effect for another -1ER. Exhausting WoLaD for AtSV is an easy requirement, as WoLaD doesn't care if it's exhausted or not. If you choose to repeat the effect, you can even exhaust the first ally you brought back to pay the cost to bring out the other.

**

Arachnid Toolbox

**

Ghost-Spider is central to giving us card pluses. When she leaves play you can tutor any of Miles' incredibly powerful events. Need damage and stun? Get Web-Shot. Thwart and tough and confuse? Swing In. Have a Meditation in hand? Get yourself Double Life. Alternatively, you can snag an event with the correct kicker for the event in hand you actually want to play. Ghost-Spider is the lynchpin of this deck. Let's consider a scenario where we put her into play using Across the Spider-Verse and have Web of Life and Destiny out. We've paid 3ER. When she leaves play, we will search our deck for a Miles event and then draw 1 card. We essentially gained 6 ATK or 4 ATK +block for 1ER. If we paid with a The Power in All of Us, we essentially paid 0ER for a tutor, damage, and block. Then of course we can Rapid Response her to do it again.

Spider-Man is a great all-around card. Readying Miles for another 2-value activation, means that we are starting at 4ER for 12 value. His requirement means nothing to us as we will never be playing him from hand, instead putting him into play with AtSV and MtC. His innate readying ability provides protection against exhaustion effects, and has synergy with some key additions such as Meditation. Peter can ready our WW allies to use their last hit point to cycle them with WoLaD. Here is one key play to be aware of, building from our earlier AtSV example. Starting with AtSV into Peter, then repeating the ability to bring out Ghost-Spider, exhausting WoLaD and Miles in the process. Peter unexhausts Miles, and we end up with two powerful allies in play. With the refund from WoLaD and Gwen's ability, this play is 3ER for 18 value (12 from Peter, 6 from Gwen). Even cheaper with The Power in All of Us and very little set up required.

Spider-Man is the most underrated target. But a searchable 2-thwart with a strong damage ability is always an option to consider. When pushing higher difficulties, he becomes even better, often netting 5-6 damage from his ability (though can be as low as 0 or as high as 10, even better with a Scarlet Witch player!). Use him to deal some unguardable damage, bring him back with Rapid Response, then defeat him again by using his 2-consequential thwart for another round of damage. This is often a game-winner!

Notably, we will almost never play these allies from hand. But lucky for us, their resources, especially Gwen's , are useful to trigger the kickers of our events! I also want to caution you against triggering a reshuffle while all of them are in the discard. You never want to draw AtSV without a valid target in discard. It can be worth forgoing the chump/activation and WoLaD draw for one turn to make sure that they miss the reshuffle and stay out of your deck.

Tech & Support

**

Aside from Web Warriors, we are running Kaluu and Gamora to dig for our power events, and Maria Hill and Nick Fury as other strong MtC targets. Gamora can be great early game, because milling our allies into the discard just turns our dead MtC and AtSV into live cards! Ironheart makes it in over White Tiger for theme and The Power in All of Us synergy, though she does not work with MtC and would probably be my first cut. We are running the basic package of Avengers Mansion, Helicarrier, and The Power in All of Us to support our basic WW allies and AtSV.

Lastly, Meditation is a great pick for Miles because of his reliable access to alter-ego with Double Life. Use Double Life to flip down (readying if need be), exhaust with Meditation to play Nick Fury, Gwen, or Hobie, and flip up without any loss of tempo. If you have Peter out, even better as you can ready Miles again! Meditation makes set up a breeze when you mulligan hard for it and Avengers Mansion/Helicarrier.

**

Miles is the New King of Marvel Champions and Here's Why

**

Let's take a brief look at the new Miles cards to show why event tutoring via Gwen/Kaluu/Gamora is such a strong strategy.

Swing In. 3ER for 4 thwart and a confuse and a tough is crazy. Even against stalwart, just the 4THW and tough is strong.

Web-Shot. 3ER for 6 damage and stun is also strong, especially since you can target two different enemies for 4 and 2 respectively. Again, still strong against stalwart.

Arachnobatics. 2ER for 2 is ok, really not bad, but nothing to write home about. But 2ER for 5 or 8 is phenomenal. Especially since this works against steady enemies (Arachnobatics only cares if the enemy has the status card on it, they don't have to be fully stunned/confused).

Ganke Lee. A free card or filter every turn, what's not to love? This is essentially Superpowered Siblings/Commander hero abilities as a card. Spiritual Meditation anyone?

Jefferson Davis. Our most awkward card. Doesn't help us when a crisis side scheme is out with more threat than the main for instance. But still, getting She-Hulk's "I Object!" as a card is still strong for the weakest card in the deck. You can even keep from playing him to keep the physical resource in your deck (reminiscent of the old Rocket Boots strategy) to allow playing Double Life without relying on Web-Shooter, since our deck has the least amount of .

Double Life. Super strong. Access to alter-ego without allowing the villain to scheme is incredible. Readying us to use our 4 REC or Meditation is great. Getting a free card off Ganke and a free thwart from Jefferson are great. Putting a card back into our deck is great.

Web-Shooter gets us the kickers for the above and is always a great Helicarrier target.

Power Within is a 2ER for 2 damage and stun and Defense Mechanism is a 2ER for tough and confuse. Defense Mechanism is often my target for Miles' AE ability, as triggering Spider Camouflage and shutting down 2 villain activations for 2ER is incredible value, and having reliable access to tough in steady/stalwart situations is necessary.

**

Other Options

**

Sneak Attack is great. 2ER and bypassing the requirement for Peter is notable, but the real synergy is Gwen. You pay 3 ER to put her in play. Then at the end of the phase, AFTER YOU DRAW YOUR HAND SIZE, she leaves play netting you an additional 2 cards from her ability and WoLaD. This is a great play, but I found that after these allies hit the discard, I'd rather keep them there the rest of the game and Sneak Attack became dead. Not working with Ironheart or Rapid Response were other negatives against it. I ended up replacing it with Meditation, which served its purpose but better.

Go Down Swinging and Save the Day were briefly considered, but Miles doesn't need any other events beyond his own and the discard does not synergize with Rapid Response.

The Triskelion can be run, since we often hit our ally limit. But I like the option to override an ally to trigger WoLaD in that scenario. In the same vein, Band Together is useful, but Meditation is better on turn 1 so I kept that instead.

Command Team synergizes with Peter, but doesn't really fit into this deck's focus at all.

Ready to Rumble is another great tech card to ready after a Double Life double flip.

Groot and Rocket Raccoon can be put in play with Make the Call and both have for Miles' event kickers, but this deck doesn't need any more allies.

**

Conclusion

**

This deck is efficient and powerful. I've taken to only playing Miles against Standard 2/Expert 2 challenges to give the villain a chance, as he is just too powerful for normal standard and expert. His reliable access to status backed with our tutor and recursion engines shreds through even the steadiest of foes. His efficient allies and events keep him moving through even a stalwart villain. Welcome to the era of Miles Morales, cream of the Marvel Champions crop.

This looks great! But how do you play Gamora without the Guardian trait?

Apr 09, 2022 Saan · 3906

@ZukinMake the Call gets her out, since you aren't "playing" her, you're playing Make The Call -- which happens to put her into play.

Apr 09, 2022 Gregwba · 1

Great write up, thanks for sharing. In regard to Command Team does this not help speed up your use of allies before triggering Web of Life and Destiny ? I particularly had Ghost spider in mind. Thanks again.

Apr 09, 2022 journeyman2 · 25350

@Gregwba thank you for reading and commenting!!

I never found Command Team to be critical. Hobie has double consequential, Rapid Response often brings them back -1HP, and Peter can ready the others in a pseudo-Command Team way. You also have the option chump or to discard one when you reach your ally limit, both triggering Web. Lastly, I had no issue with keeping them on the board a little longer in order to avoid the reshuffle and keep them out of the deck, making sure that AtSV was always ‘on’; or waiting for a Rapid Response so they could come right back. So I never had an issue getting full value or being able to trigger Web. Once set up, this deck only wants to play allies and Miles’ events!

Get around play restrictions with this one weird trick! FFG hates him!

For real though, really cool idea, I'll have to give it a shot.

Apr 10, 2022 Agelaus · 14

Looking forward to try this. My initial thought on him is that he didn't look that great but maybe with this.

Only thing I have to day about it is all the abreveations made it hard to read as a newer player. But I get it, especially if you typted it up on your phone. That's a lot of words to repeat over and over.

Apr 10, 2022 journeyman2 · 25350

@Saan thank you! Let me know how it goes!

@Agelaus thank you for reading it! I’m sorry about the abbreviations. I wrote this a week ago and the cards weren’t up yet, so the # link to card names wasn’t working and I used shorthand. The key ones:

AtSV = Across the Spider-Verse

WoLaD = Web of Life and Destiny

MtC = Make the Call

TPIAOU = The Power in All of Us

ER = Effective Resources. The total number of resources it costs to play the card including the card itself (only include the card if played from hand). This is why AtSV and Rapid Response are great here. They cost 3ER (2 resources + themself) to get you an ally that costs 4 ER (or even 5ER if you Rapid Response Nick Fury, but only when defeated not discarded from his effect).

I don't understand, how do you play Gamora without the guardian trait? Thank you

Apr 11, 2022 dr00 · 44595

@MiguelCantillo3 Make the Call puts her directly into play, so there's no trait matching required

@journeyman2 Great deck and great write-up! Will definitely be giving this one a try as I wanted to try Leadership with Miles.

Apr 12, 2022 journeyman2 · 25350

@Brian-V thank you! I’m always worried I write too much and that I could be more succinct, so I’m glad someone read it!

@josseroo yes! I didn’t like Meditation as much before this. But a free flip to alter-ego and a way to ready in one card opened the door to use it past turn 1!

Apr 13, 2022 Droghon · 1

Great deck! I Will give a try, but what about swap rapido response with sneak attack? Cant get black widow :(

Apr 13, 2022 journeyman2 · 25350

@Droghon Thank you!

That’s an interesting question. Without Rapid Response, you’ll be relying on Make the Call that much more. My suggestion would be to either sub in Strength In Numbers, which can help trigger your reshuffle while the Web Warriors are in play, keeping them out of your deck and working well with basic Peter. Another option would be Band Together. You’ll always have 1-2 allies out, the wild helps with event kickers, and it can help Make the Call for your allies. Just have to be careful since it can mess up the occasional first turn.

Sneak Attack is a viable option, you just want to make sure you have Web before you play it, and your primary targets are the WW as Ironheart’s trigger doesn’t work with Sneak Attack. You can do some things like put Peter into play for 3ER thwart 2 and ready Miles to thwart 2, then draw when discarded, essentially a Multitasking, and giving you a 6 card hand next turn. It can be a good way to turn on Make the Call. Or if you have Peter out already, Sneak Gwen/Hobie in and use Peter to ready them (though this really amounts to the same as readying Miles). This is where the deck started and it is playable! As more WW/Champion/Civilian allies come out, it may even be the better option!

If you try one of these changes, let me know how it goes!

Apr 13, 2022 journeyman2 · 25350

One thing to note is that Strength In Numbers and Sneak Attack might get hit by Gamora over a Miles event, which sometimes can be good, but mostly I want to see his events as often as possible. Band Together doesn’t have this problem. You could even drop Ironheart and go x3 Sneak Attack or a combination of x2/1SiN and x1/2 Band Together. Each option has its pros and cons.

When using Make the Call to pull Spider Man (Peter Parker) out of the discard pile, do I still need to fulfill his Requirement (pay with one of each resource type) when paying his cost of 3? It seems like this would be the case based on the way the Requirement is worded.

Apr 18, 2022 journeyman2 · 25350

@dillpickle64 No you wouldn’t, because Make the Call “puts him in play” instead of playing him! Enjoy!

Apr 21, 2022 Telcontar · 482

This is up there with Adam Warlock Wild Tutor as a deck that makes you say "Holy forking shirtballs". Just threw the deck together for a quick solo test against Sandman and he got decimated. 7 cards left in the encounter deck, no threat on the main scheme, and two sand counters on City Streets.

Apr 21, 2022 journeyman2 · 25350

@Telcontar That is high praise! I appreciate your kind words and The Good Place reference!

Apr 21, 2022 CubbyAC · 1

Seems like a cool deck - I'm a newer player but I'm going to give it a shot this weekend with some more experienced friends. But, one of them plans to play Ghost Spider as their identity, so (I'm told) I won't be able to use Ghost Spider as an ally in this deck. Will it still function properly without the card you call the "lynchpin," or will having more Web Warrior targets for me in their Ghost Spider deck offset that absence?

Apr 21, 2022 journeyman2 · 25350

I played through the expert/expert SinMo campaign with this deck and a custom Ghost Spider-Protection deck, with 0 losses.

My recommendation is to swap out Gwen for 1x Band Together. As your aspect advantage, take Spider-UK. If you get a free Helicarrier, take a second Band Together. My recommendation for Shield tech is Retinal Display. As your planning ahead, take Avengers Mansion and mulligan for Meditation or a double resource. A turn 1 mansion and helicarrier is awesome! The deck is pretty much set up after you get Web of Life and Destiny and that point.

Good luck and enjoy!

Apr 23, 2022 The_Wall · 133

I think its worth noting that your Venom Blast special gets around both guard and retaliate since it is not an attack. Miles is one of the only characters where Standard II does not cripple your stun plan and it makes him much tankier than his 9 health suggests.

Also worth noting is that your obligation Keeping Secrets is very light. Getting the free switch to AE lets you Meditation and neither of your personas are super impactful so it doesn't hurt as much as most. Especially if you pitch Ganke Lee for his wild from time to time.

Apr 23, 2022 journeyman2 · 25350

@The_Wall Great points! Flipping down and surging isn’t terrible, especially getting another chance to put something back in deck. If Ganke is out however, I’ll definitely take the exhaust. Getting a free card is just too good, and we have plenty anti-exhaust tech here between Double Life and Peter!

May 17, 2022 Stef · 28

Fantastic write-up and very interesting deck. It's a better form of the "dredge-like" deck I tried to develop for Adam Warlock.

I think Triskelion is very strong in this deck (allies will die anyway fairly quickly from damage and blocks), but unless you play at 41 cards I don't see what could be cut for it. :(

May 17, 2022 Cantfindwaldo · 1

@journeyman2 How are you able to play Gamora? Did you mention how you get around the guardian requirement?

May 17, 2022 journeyman2 · 25350

@Stef Thank you so much for looking it over! I did list The Triskelion in the “other” section. For me, having the option to override any ally to trigger Web is too powerful an option to pass up.

@Cantfindwaldo Gamora is “put into play” by Make the Call which gets around her requirement that says she can only be “played” by someone with the Guardian trait. In Marvel Champions, “playing” a card and “putting a card into play” are different mechanically, so MtC can cheat her in. Lucky for us since she is useful in this deck! Just spend her as for Web Shot or discard her for Ganke Lee then bring her back with MtC! Then for 3 turns you’ll have an extra card in hand, almost guaranteed to be something strong, since Miles’ best cards are his events.

May 25, 2022 Bikethief · 1

@journeyman2 am I missing something with the Meditation combo? Most of the good plays are only playable with web-warrior trait, and miles in alter-ego is only a civilian. are you just counting on the value from Helicarrier and Mansion? Or is it still viable if you have to have another web-warrior ally around?

May 25, 2022 journeyman2 · 25350

Thanks for checking it out @Bikethief!

Meditation is great early to set up Mansion and Helicarrier. In the middle game, Nick Fury, Gwen, and Hobie are all excellent targets! Gwen and Hobie only require that you control a Web Warrior card, which Web of Life and Destiny fulfills for you! Meditation into Ganke and then drawing a card is absolutely viable as well if you have hero cards you don’t want to spend to get him down. Meditation into an ally is a great use of your Double Life turns!

@wojciech He sure is! This deck is broken as all get out, so I’m only pulling it out for likewise OP scenarios

Jul 25, 2022 mghouston91 · 15

Cool idea but I don't think Make the Call will dodge the Spider-Man ally's requirement. The requirement is a requirement when "paying" for the card which Make the Call doesn't avoid doing. Paying the printed cost of Spider-Man ally is to meet the requirement as stated on the card.

Jul 25, 2022 journeyman2 · 25350

@mghouston91 That’s actually incorrect.

Requirement: “A card with the requirement keyword cannot be played unless each resource of the specified type is spent while paying for that card’s cost.”

Make the Call puts the ally into play, which is mechanically different from “playing” in Marvel Champions.

Put into Play: “ Some abilities cause cards to be put into play. This bypasses the need to pay the card’s cost as well as any restrictions or prohibitions regarding playing that card”

There is a lot of confusion because the Reminder Text is poorly written. Just remember, reminder text is not itself a rule.

Reminder Text: “Reminder text has no effect on the game and is only intended to remind a player of a specific game function or rule.“

I hope this clears this up for you!

@Jungle Great idea!

Sep 26, 2022 journeyman2 · 25350

@Too Many Weasels``@Jungle sorry for the delay, I didn’t see this right away!!

I would recommend another Web-Warrior ally. Unless playing a steady villain, Thwip! Thwip! is very expensive, as the second stun is usually wasted. It is less efficient than the stuns Miles already has (and can recur with his alter-ego effect). Adding 3 cards will also dilute the deck.

I used Spider-UK in my Sinister Motives playthrough. But Silk is another strong contender.

Hall of Heroes is a unique card that Miles can use on Double Life turns. Miles also has great access to good champions cards such as Pinpoint, who can help put Defense Mechanism, Power Within, and Web-Shooter back in deck.

Thank you for checking out the deck and leaving your kind words!
